Hungary’s relationship with Sweden is at its “lowest point”

Hungarian officials said Thursday that relations with Sweden are at their “lowest point” and called on the Nordic country to take further “steps” to build that trust as it seeks to win its support for NATO membership.

“The relationship between Sweden and Hungary (…) is at its lowest point, and confidence-building measures are needed,” Viktor Orbán’s government spokesman Gergely Gulyas told a press conference, the daily Magyar Nemzet reports.

Last year, Finland and Sweden applied at the same time to join NATO.

However, only Helsinki managed to enter this week formally.

Meanwhile, Hungary and Turkey continue to stonewall Sweden.

Budapest has repeatedly reproached criticism of Prime Minister Orbán’s management coming from the Nordic country, while Ankara argues that they are not doing enough against Kurdish groups operating on its territory.

More than a billion dollars worth of military equipment is sold to Qatar almost every year. In Qatar, homosexuality is punishable by death, not imprisonment. Why don't they threaten Qatar?

Saudi Arabia is one of the largest trading partners of the US. In Saudi Arabia, this is punishable by death. Why don't they threaten them? Why don't they threaten Russia?

Then they come to Ghana and Africa, they want to come and threaten us LGBTQ people. The American government is a bunch of hypocrites. If they really want to measure their strength, they should measure their strength with Russia.”
