Basic Information about IB

The Intelligence Bureau (IB) is India’s premier internal intelligence, counterintelligence, and counter-terrorism agency functioning under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Established in 1887, it is widely regarded as the world’s oldest continuously functioning intelligence organisation.

Historical Evolution and Mandate

Foundation (1887):
Originally created as the Central Special Branch during British rule to monitor political and security developments across the subcontinent.

Expanded Role: After Independence, the IB handled both domestic and external intelligence responsibilities.

Creation of RAW (1968): In 1968, India separated external intelligence functions by establishing the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), allowing the IB to focus exclusively on internal security.

Present-Day Mandate: Today, the IB plays a central role in:

1. Counter-terrorism operations
2. Counterintelligence and anti-espionage activities
3. Internal security assessment
4. Monitoring extremist and separatist movements
5. Intelligence coordination with state police and central agencies

Current Leadership

The Bureau is currently headed by Tapan Kumar Deka, a 1988-batch IPS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre.

He assumed office as Director in June 2022, and his tenure has been extended until June 2026 by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

Widely respected within India’s security establishment, Deka is regarded as one of the country’s foremost counter-terrorism specialists, with extensive operational experience in handling high-profile national security and intelligence investigations.

An Advice to upcoming IB officers,

Please do not criticize the authority publicly or write anything related to success in IB exams.

In the upcoming days result will be out and it has become a general tendency of aspirants to share success publicly over social media but you have to refrain yourself from doing so.

IB will verify everything once and telegram more strictly so please adhere to it.

We do understand about anxiety level. It is very difficult to remain calm during these days.

But you have to be. Keep yourself hydrated - it also reduces anxiety.

Hello IB SA Aspirants,

First of all, thank you for the tremendous love and support you have shown towards our Free IB SA Interview Batch. Your trust and appreciation motivate us to work even harder for you. We assure you that the upcoming sessions will also maintain the same quality, depth, and guidance.

As already shared in our schedule, we are moving according to plan and will successfully complete 10 high-quality lectures in the free batch by 29th May.

Now coming to the most frequently asked question — “Will there be Mock Interviews?”

You all know that conducting proper mock interviews requires a large team, experienced panelists, time management, and extensive coordination. Otherwise, just like the ACIO batch, we would have loved to conduct them completely free of cost. Still, keeping students’ interests in mind, we have tried our best to make the mock interview program available at a highly subsidized fee.

We are now introducing the IB SA Mock Interview Batch.

Based on our experience with the ACIO interview process, we strongly believe that 3 mock interviews are the minimum required for a candidate to gain confidence, improve communication, and become fully prepared for the actual SA interview. Moreover, many aspirants now have only 10–15 days left before their interview, and beyond this number, additional mocks often become less effective within such a short duration.

The Batch Includes:

1. 3 Mock Interviews

2. Conducted by Expert Faculty
3. Panel members who have already guided and conducted ACIO Interview sessions
4. Detailed feedback and improvement guidance

And the best part — the course fee is only ₹500.
