75 days prelims strategy

35 days
⁃ 18 tests should be given (full+ part)
⁃ Modern : 5days
⁃ Geography: 2 days
⁃ Polity : 4 days
⁃ Env: 3 days
⁃ IR: 1 day
⁃ Economics : 6days
⁃ Ancient and medieval: 2 days ( inc: A&C)
⁃ CA: should be spread out across days : assuming 5 days (including science and tech )
⁃ Mapping : 2 days
⁃ Sundays: 5 days: CSAT + rest day/ catchup
⁃ PYQ: 1 hour daily
25 days
⁃ repeating the above in 25 days( as second revision). Reduce 1-2 day for each subject.
⁃ No of tests should be 14, more full length tests should be given . Identify weak areas and attempt part test of those only.

8 days
⁃ focus on those areas which seem weak.
⁃ Catch up whatever is left.
⁃ Art and culture can be given some time in these days to mug the facts.
⁃ Focus on fringe areas which are high yield giving like mapping, rivers etc. Geography should be revised through maps this time to save time.
⁃ Do more PYQs and don’t get distracted my mock walas faltu questions. Trust the process.

Final 7 days ( time for third revision after a week of relaxed schedule)
⁃ polity : 1 day( imp chapters like parliament, FR, FD) : preferably on the last day to boost confidence
⁃ Ancient and medieval + A&C: 1 day
⁃ Economy: 2 days
⁃ IR: 0.5 day
⁃ Geography: 0.5 day ( as already revised previous week )
⁃ Modern : 1 day
⁃ Env : 0.5 day
⁃ CA: 0.5 day ( only imp stuff like S&T / economics)
⁃ Daily take out sometime for mapping before going to bed.
⁃ Do not give any mock test now, just attempt PYQs.

Tips and suggestions:

◦ Studying pt 365: Important magazines are economy, environment and S&T. Cover them thoroughly, can make short notes if required (for facts and all).
◦ Revise two subjects daily: the best way to maximise efficiency is studying two subjects simultaneously, one in the first half of the day and second in another half. Preferably take one tough subject and one easier one ( like polity).
◦ It’s important to assess mock test after attempting. It’s not necessary to do that immediately, but some after after that.
◦ Number of mocks can vary from person to person, attempt based on your comfort level. Also, from mocks try to decide the optimum number of questions you would be doing in the real exam.
◦ Do not get deviated by tonnes of current affairs here and there, stick to one and most importantly never leave static.
◦ IR component is on rise from past few years, can easily expect 4-5 questions this time also. Use CA magazine to prepare it well.
◦ For S&T: use YouTube and prepare topics of genetics which upsc has asked multiple times. Study about latest technology in IT etc.
◦ Don’t get disheartened by mocks marks, they are just for exercise and do not reflect actual paper marks.
◦ Try to give All India full length mock tests conducted by some reputed institutions, that way you can get used to different type of questions and can get a feel of real exam.

Prelims postponed: how to strategise

After the recent notification by upsc , prelims got postponed to 16th June. That means roughly 20 days more. Here are my thoughts on this :

1. It’s more about momentum now. Leaving the study or a break will dilute the whole preparation. However, studying with the same pace will have chances of burn out.

2. You need to plan 20 days to your favour, where you can slow down a bit but can’t leave it. Also, the question comes what can we do apart from prelims in these extra 20 days?

3. Don’t pick whole of the mains syllabus again. Take only 1 subject, I recommend to take either Ethics(for answer writing )or GS1(as it overlaps with prelims preparation), but take only 1 for some answer writing and study daily. Or as an alternative strategy you can complete those portions of your mains syllabus which you couldn’t because of time constraints earlier ( like security, Governance etc). But my sincere advice would be choose your areas wisely.

4. You can revise some portions of your optional also( mostly from ppr 1). It all depends on how you divide your time in a day.

5. Do not start with anything new or do not rush to complete things here and there.

6. Keep prelims preparation always in mind and keep giving tests, solving PYQs and revision.

7. If you wish you can write 2-3 essays in free time in these extra days.

8. It’s more a mental battle. Keep that in mind. It’s same for everyone. Just keep yourself motivated and in high spirits.

होयी है सोई जो राम रचि राखा!

Bholenath sabko moksh pradan karen !
Back in May 2022. I was eagerly waiting for my results with Dwij, Shubhratosh, Madhav and Aradhana. All five of us were on a google call when holy pdf of UPSC 2021 was released. I pressed control + F and found “Not Found” blinking on my face. I searched for all the names, none of us was in the list. I checked if pdf was fake, I checked it again, and again, and again. Then I went into an ever growing wave of grief of falling off the cliff right there, close to the top. Prelims was just 5 days away and I had not prepared anything. My senior and mentors called me that evening, I told them I want to leave this process and want to find a job. They said “Today and probably for coming few days, you may lose trust on your capabilities, but we trust on them. Take your sweet time to cry, everyone deserves to grieve. But then no one would want to listen to your story where you fell down and couldn’t get up. Get yourself together and give another prelims”
I cried for a day, had desserts worth Rs 900 at Barista in Aligarh on my Ishaan’s (my friend) money, and got back home just to find my Art and Culture notes.
5 days later, I ended up scoring 110+ in prelims, my best score in all 3 attempts and then cleared the exam bagging rank 86 and my first preference, Indian Foreign Service. Dwij, Madhav and Shubhratosh got through with me and went together to LBSNAA. Aradhana couldn’t clear Prelims 2022. But her hardwork and commitment made her clear this exam yesterday with her dream service. Thats a happy ending we always wanted for our group.
Congratulations to those who had the best day of their lives yesterday, for others, my heart goes out to you for this week. But do remember what my mentor told me, only you can change your story. And no one likes to listen to a sad ending, let’s work again and twist it into a happy one.
Warm hugs, and greetings. You can reach out to me if I may help you in any way.

We will connect shortly.
Hello everyone,
Based on the queries which we have received. We will be taking a live session at 6:30 PM today.
I am sharing my mapping notes! I mapped these places on Google maps and revised them from there itself. The notes include both static places and those in news. Do take a look
