.. Q2. Influence of Parental Authority on Stephen’s Childhood and teens and show how Stephan deals with that authority.

A: Stephen’s parents have a strong influence on his early life. His mother represents religious authority—she wants him to obey the Church and follow a clean, moral life. His father, Simon Dedalus, is careless with money and often recalls his lost youth. Because of his father’s failures, Stephen’s family becomes poor, and he must move from good schools to cheaper ones. These experiences make him ashamed and more serious about his future. At the same time, his mother’s religious pressure and his father’s weakness create conflict in him. He loves them but also feels trapped by their expectations. As he grows older, Stephen begins to reject their control. He refuses to follow their political or religious ideas and chooses his own path as an artist. This shows how parental authority shapes his identity—first by limiting him, then by pushing him to find freedom and independence through art.
