The poem starts with deep sorrow and confusion but over time Tennyson moves towards hope finding peace and comfort in the idea of eternal love and faith in a higher purpose, So it is a journey from doubt to faith , from grief to joy , from darkness to light ,and from despair to hope and the poem moves from the subjectivity to the objectivity

In The Lady of Shalott Tennyson explores chivalry through the figure of Sir Lancelot, the ideal knight who is ready to fight for his country , his lady ,noble and courage.The Lady longs to be part of the world of knights and love but is bound by a curse.
