Hindley comes home drunk and angry. He threatens Nelly with a knife but realizes he mistook her for Hareton. He then gets mad at Hareton, demands a kiss, and threatens to break his neck. Nelly tries to save Hareton as Hindley leans over the banister, puzzled by a noise below.

Hindley said these lines to Edgar Linton.

Robert, ordered Skulker to attack them “Keep fast, Skulker, keep fast!” then the dog bit Catherine's ankle.
This explain that the dog was trained to follow such orders. She was bitten and seized by the devil as Heathcliff told Nelly. because Skulker is a symbol for the death and agent of hell.
