Q: Hester is a woman who breaks the cultural bonds to gain personal power. Do you agree? Argue cleverly.

Answer: Hester Prynne is in pain because society has rejected her. They banished her. Yes, you are free to choose wherever you go, but do not stay here. And she chose to stay on the side of Boston. She could leave, but she chose to stay away from others (lonely life). She hopes that by staying, she can show the community that she can change and earn their acceptance.

Hester Prynne sews clothes and gives them to poor people for free. they need her skills. Her sewing is like art—it fights the Puritans rules. The poor people began buying Hester's clothes, which got her the marketing she needed. She became important, with people asking her to make their clothes. not fully accepted, she changes how people dress and think. Making people wear what she wants them to wear. Her own fashion. So, she will refashion, remake, and redesign people. Hester changed people from the outside and waiting for them to change from the inside (to accept her). When people liked her fashion, it meant they accepted her and her mistake. Normalizing her sin doesn’t mean everyone can do wrong; it means that everyone may sin. Society must not be so harsh about sin because human err. If they keep judging others, they only create more problems.

When people mock and insult her, she keeps calm and silent. Her silent work slowly changes people, showing her strength is in small actions.
The Scarlet Letter gave her super power to see sin in others and in herself to live with her shame to keep her sane and it’s another illusion (fantasy).

Q: The Scarlet Letter illustrates the mechanisms of hypocrisy and conformity and their effect on self-formation. Discuss.

Answer: The prison is called the "black flower of civilization" to show how it represents the dark and death-focused side of Puritan culture and how it is built on suppressing and rejecting natural human desires. The color black symbolizes a lack of life and color.
The Utopian: The Puritans claim to create a utopia, but instead of building a perfect society, they created a culture based on repression and punishment. The first thing they built is a church, churchyard (cemetery), and a prison. The failure of their utopian, showing how their claims at creating a "perfect" society resulted in a dark, restrictive culture.

The rose bush symbolizes nature's sympathy for the prisoners. It contrasts with the prison, which represents civilization. The rose bush is seen as nature's way of offering beauty and pity to the prisoners who acted on their nature. The narrator sees nature as more understanding, in contrast to civilization, which is strict and harsh.

The punishment happens on a scaffold so everyone can see.
Crowds gather to watch, judge, and feel superior.
Public shaming doesn’t make people better—it makes them heartless and hypocrites.
Hester Prynne sews clothes and gives them to poor people for free. The poor people began buying Hester's clothes, which make her famous and people asking her to make their clothes.

She can create fashion or clothes for everyone except brides. if she makes brides dresses, it means they are stained. Their future might be stained. So, they kept her away from brides. They even let her coffins but not brides’ clothes! This shows people's hypocrisy. they enjoy her clothes but still want to keep her away when it comes to purity. because they still see her not pure.

Q1:
Answer: Hester decided to stop her ideas of sin again. She chose to live as a martyr who sacrifices her life to change society, by performing the role of the mother of sin and by staying disciplined and not hurting people who hurt her (bad doings). For that, she acquires the badge of martyrdom.
