The Scottish wildcat (Felis silvestris silvestris), also known as the Highland tiger, is critically endangered and threatened by hybridization with domestic cats.

So little attention has been drawn to their plight that most people don't know they exist.

The hazel dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius) population has declined by 51% since 2000. They’ve become extinct in 17 English counties in the last 100 years. Woodland habitat loss is the major threat.

Our conclusions from yesterday's by-elections are identical to our article written about the by-elections this summer: homelandparty.org/news/doom-mongers-are-wrong/

It is exceedingly rare for a party to lose a seat with majority of over 20,000, but it has happened to the Tories 3 times this year. If these results were applied to a general election, the Tories would have around 50 MPs or less, but it's too far out to call yet.

For a Prime Minister in normal circumstances, results as bad as these would trigger a leadership contest, though it seems like Sunak will be saved by international events.

As for Britain First and Ashley Simon, we congratulate them. It's the first time such a party has strongly registered in a by-election for some time. As our earlier article says, by-elections are not the place to start. We wouldn't run a candidate for Parliament unless we were certain that we would get over 5% of the vote (to keep the deposit) and in an area where we have significant representation on local councils.

But coming in at 4th place as a novice is impressive regardless, even if it was only a small fraction of the votes cast.

The largest factor is that Tory voters are not showing up to the polls. It is clear that Reform UK are failing to inspire the disaffected voters that previously propelled Boris to victory in 2019. At the Homeland Party, we aim to win these people over through our actions in the community and give them something to vote for at local level.

The red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) has dwindled to an estimated population of 287,000, compared to the 2.7 million strong North American grey squirrel pushing it out of most areas.

They are now only commonly found in the far north of England and Scotland.
