Tropical Storm Danielle forms in the Atlantic

Tropical Storm Danielle formed Thursday in the Atlantic and is expected to become the first hurricane of an unusually quiet storm season.

The storm’s maximum sustained winds were near 40 mph (65 kph). Additional strengthening is forecast and the storm is expected to become a hurricane in two days or so, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

The storm is centered about 960 miles (1,545 kilometers) west of the Azores and is moving east near 2 mph (4 kph). The hurricane center said the storm is expected to meander in the Atlantic over the next few days.

Prices for gasoline and public transport in Germany surged Thursday as government subsidies expired, hurting commuters already struggling with high energy costs, as a senior official warned that the country couldn’t rely on Russia to fulfill gas supply contracts.

Germany’s biggest auto club, ADAC, said initial estimates indicated that the average price of one liter of E10 super was about 0.25 euros ($0.25) higher in the morning than the previous day. Diesel fuel was about 0.10 euros ($0.10) more expensive, it said.

Thursday marked the end of a temporary cut in gasoline taxes and a special 9-euro ($9) monthly public transport ticket unveiled by the government in May to ease the pain of inflation.

President Trump Suggests He’ll Pardon J6 Defendants If President Again

Former President Donald Trump on Friday said he would consider pardoning some defendants facing federal charges for their participation in the Jan. 6 Capitol Riot should he return to office in 2024.

Speaking to a Faith and Freedom Coalition conference in Nashville, Trump said “and if I become president someday, if I decide to do it, I will be looking at them very very seriously for pardons.”
