Out-of-Control SpaceX Rocket on Collision Course with the Moon

A SpaceX rocket looks set to crash into the Moon after spending nearly seven years tumbling in a โ€œchaoticโ€ orbit through space.

The booster rocket, which was part of the companyโ€™s Falcon 9 spacecraft, had been launched from Florida in Feb 2015. However, it lost control after completing a long burn of its engines to launch a satellite โ€“ and the rocket had neither enough fuel to return to Earth, nor the energy to โ€œescape the gravity of the Earth-Moon system,โ€ Ars Technica explained.

Thought to be the first-ever โ€œunintended lunar impact,โ€ the derelict rocket is expected to crash in early March.
