NEW: President Biden's new peace initiative in Yemen sees the end of U.S. offensive support in the war (including missiles and arms sales to Saudi Arabia), as well as the appointment of a personal envoy to work towards peace in the region. The U.S. will now take a more neutral role in the conflict. (WSJ)
The Trump administration had previously backed Saudi Arabia's efforts to cripple the Houthis, a terrorist group based in Yemen. The Houthis have been aided by Iranian financial and military support since Saudi Arabia's involvement in the Yemeni Civil War.
