Vaccination status of COVID-19 cases admitted to ICU in Ireland between April 1st 2021 and November 13th 2021
Between April 1st and November 13th 2021:
• 589 persons (aged 15 + years) were reported to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) as admitted to ICU with confirmed COVID-19 infection.
• 369/589 (63%) cases reported as not having received a COVID-19 vaccine or were not registered as
vaccinated on Ireland’s national COVID-19 immunisation system (COVAX).
• 220/589 (37%) cases were reported as having received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine
prior to admission to ICU.
• 170/589 (29%) cases were vaccine breakthrough infections
o The median age of these cases was 67 years (range: 30 to 88 years)

• 651 persons with a laboratory confirmed COVID-19 infection, were notified to the Health Protection
Surveillance Centre (HPSC) as having died due to COVID-19.
• 243/651 (37.3%) deaths were notified in persons who were not vaccinated or not registered as
vaccinated on Ireland’s national COVID-19 immunisation system (COVAX).
• 408/651 (62.7%) deaths were notified in persons who had received at least one dose of COVID -19
vaccine prior to death.
• 333/651 (51.2%) of the notified deaths had an epidemiological date 14 days or more after
receiving both doses of a 2-dose regimen or 1 dose of a 1-dose regimen and are considered as
vaccine breakthrough infections.

Germany’s Covid “NATIONAL EMERGENCY” - 4th wave sparks lockdown fears
Record infection levels have struck Germany as the pandemic situation has grown “more serious”, as Health Minister Jens Spahn refused to rule out a nationwide lockdown.
“We need to turn the tide, there’s really no time to lose,” he added, a day after the Bundesrat approved new tighter restrictions with over a ¼ of districts reporting over 500 cases per 100k people.
Spahn also warned that the influx of Covid patients will require Germany to move patients to other regions and possibly “even abroad to neighboring countries.”
