For those in the media or military who find themselves on the wrong side of history, it is never too late to repent. I would rather see contrite people rehabilitated (after some appropriate punishment) than have them imprisoned for life (needing costly guards) or executed for war crimes (leaving the rest of us to pick up their family duties). No matter how screwed up the past, you can still recover some honour in the present by admitting to wrongdoing. Top level organisers are different; no recovery from that level of violence. Compassion and forgiveness is for the foot soldiers deceived into obeying evil.
