Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies is a 2014 book by the philosopher and physicist Nick Bostrom from the University of Oxford. It argues that if machine brains surpass human brains in general intelligence, then this new superintelligence could replace humans as the dominant lifeform on Earth. Sufficiently intelligent machines could improve their own capabilities faster than human computer scientists, and the outcome could be an existential catastrophe for humans.

Lise Meitner and Otto Hahn, shown in Dahlem, 1913.

Lise Meitner was a pioneering nuclear physicist who made key contributions to the discovery of nuclear fission. She worked with Otto Hahn and discovered that fission could be achieved by bombarding uranium with slow neutrons, a key factor in the development of the atomic bomb.
On Valentine’s Day 2023, the Moon will occult Dschubba!
Dschubba, or delta Scorpii, is a B-type star in the constellation of Scorpius. It’s the middle star in the little arc of 3 stars above bright red Antares, the Scorpion’s Heart. On February 14, the 24-day-old waning crescent moon will pass in front of the star, temporarily hiding it from view from some parts of the world.

On #ValentinesDay 1990, Voyager was 6.4 bn km away when it turned to see its long lost love one more time before it left for good.

It saw a small pixel sized dot - Earth - where it was born, nourished 🌍🚀🛰

This love story was written in the stars. Literally!💫

A polymath and a central figure in the transition from natural philosophy to modern science and in the transformation of scientific Renaissance into a scientific revolution.
