Тут спрашивают про артикль — почему the guy в предыдущем примере ("You are not the guy").

Здесь на самом деле всё просто: для существительных в единственном числе используем артикль a, когда упоминаем впервые, либо не конкретный предмет/человек. Однако в примере из фильма речь про вполне конкретного the guy — оба собеседника понимают о чем речь — the guy who works as an assistant for Mike.

👉 А ещё the guy можно использовать, когда вызываете человека чтобы что-то починить или сделать, например сантехника — Oh shit, there is a leaking pipe, I'll call the guy to fix that.

👉 Huckleberry — черника. В XVIII веке слово начали использовать также в значении 'скромный', 'незначительный' (говорят, Марк Твен назвал своего героя Huckleberry Finn, чтобы подчеркнуть его второстепенность по сравнению с Томом Сойером). Затем появилось выражение I'm your huckleberry.

Хор — choir — произносится как куая (а не чор или кор).

Причина в том, что до XVIII века хор назывался quire.

Хор стал называться quire от французского quer (сначала было написание quere, которое к XV веку трансформировалось в quire). А в XVI веке англичане вдруг решили латинизировать слово, и писать его как choir (других проблем в королевстве, очевидно, тогда не было). Писать-то по-новому стали, но в разговорном уже укоренилось quire.

Следующий трюк может показаться not that important, но, поверьте, очень важен.
Первое, что нужно сделать, чтобы процесс learning English был эффективным — осознать свои цели.

3⃣ Цель. Нужна чёткая, ясная и достижимая цель — ЧТО (какого уровня хотите достичь; на какой балл сдать экзамен), КОГДА (через полгода, через год), и ЗАЧЕМ (уехать жить в англ.страну; поступить в англ.универ; выйти замуж за иностранца, в конце-концов).

🛑 Отсутствие цели и ясного понимания "зачем я учу инглиш" — основной тормоз. ("Общаться с иностранцами в поездках на отдых" это не цель, если что — для этого достаточно знать 50 слов и простейшую грамматику.)
Это главная причина, почему люди учат английский всю жизнь, начиная со школьной парты, без какого-либо прогресса, или застревают на одном уровне.

🎯 Самый простой способ задать себе цель — выбрать экзамен (IELTS, TOEFL, CAE), решить как вы собираетесь использовать полученный сертификат, примерную дату сдачи, и начать к нему готовиться. По результатам вы сможете видеть более-менее адекватную оценку вашего прогресса, сильные и слабые стороны.

​​Чем отличаются бои 👊 без правил от английской фонетики? Тем, что в боях без правил всё-таки одно правило соблюдается — не бить в пах. Фонетике плевать даже и на это. В английском около тысячи слов, произношение которых определяется традициями, а не правилами (недавно мы как раз говорили про choir).

Так вот, есть стихотворение 1922 года, которое называется Хаос (Gerard Nolst Trenité - The Chaos) и посвящено как раз этой особенности английского. The Chaos построено на противопоставлении 'правильных' слов и слов-исключений (в поэме примерно 800 слов с нестандартным произношением).
Настоящие тру-маньяки 🤹‍♂учат этот стих наизусть, но я считаю это уж слишком. Что действительно советую — периодически прослушивать+прочитывать Хаос вслух, и со временем нужное отложится в мышечной памяти.
