🎱 Percent (он же per cent, он же per-cent) используем в единственном числе.
❌ Wrong: 10 percents of us
✅ Correct: 10 percent of us
🎱 В то же время (!) percent может действовать как singular или plural в зависимости от того, что измеряем: для исчисляемой величины percent это множ.число (are, do), для неисчисляемой, например воды, — единств.число (is, does).
❌ Wrong: 2% of citizens owns 80% of the country's wealth
✅ Correct: 2% of citizens own 80% of the country's wealth

👆 Для предыдущего пункта имеется исключение. Есть устойчивые словосочетания the 1% и the 99%, которые по сути являются названиями конкретных групп людей: richest-people group, и ordinary-people group.

При общении с иностранцами через Facebook, заметил у себя небольшую проблему в виде "незнания слов". Для спокойствия приходится лезть в словарь, а потом оказывается что я знал эти слова. Как решить эту проблему? Я так понимаю это связано с пассивным словарным запасом.
Если нет проблем в чтении, но тяжело выудить из памяти слова, когда пытаемся выразить свои мысли — это действительно Passive vocab issue, и нет иного способа его преодолеть кроме как практикой. Больше писа́ть и говорить.
Если же при чтении слово выглядит знакомо, уже видел его, но сомневаешься в значении — значит количество раз, когда оно встречалось раньше, недостаточно. Но решение то же — больше практики, читать новости, слушать подкасты.
Ещё для прокачки и поддержания словарного запаса есть WordUP — пожалуй, самое эффективное на сегодня приложение для вокабуляра. Это карточки слов, с десятками реальных текстовых и видео-примеров по каждому слову, что действительно помогает запоминать.

В русском есть слово "лимонад", и ещё более универсальное — "газировка", которое может обозначать любой сладкий напиток с газом.
#FunFact, в английском таких слов три — pop, soda и coke. Значение абсолютно одинаково, различие только в частоте использования в конкретном регионе. В Нью-Йорке, например, доминирует soda, а в Вашингтоне — pop.
Какие-то ребята заморочились, и создали интерактивную карту для США. Так что теперь если в фильме встретите одно из этих названий, можете сверить, из какого штата сценарист.
