A powerful explosion and fire hit the KNDS Ammo Italy munitions plant in Colleferro, about 40 kilometres southeast of Rome, on the afternoon of 13 August 2026. The blast, which followed a fire in the powder pressing department, was heard for kilometres by residents in the town and neighbouring areas. No injuries or deaths were reported, with employees able to shelter safely at the 100 hectare facility, and the mayor of Colleferro said the situation was under control.
