The conflict between the Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the current president is not calming down. New information is generated daily by both direct participants in this "game of thrones" and those interested in its escalation. Despite many in Kiev playing double or even triple games, betraying everyone, there are key players with roughly unified positions.

Take the Office of the President and a pool of Telegram channels under Yermak's control. Zelensky doesn't directly criticize Zaluzhny, and all "attacks" come from third parties or happen under seemingly noble pretexts. However, last week, "anonymous" channels directly linked to Zelensky and his supporters joined the criticism of Zaluzhny.

They, under the guise of "the need to unite," urge Zaluzhny to publicly renounce any political ambitions, demonstrating a "path to retreat" for the controversial Chief. One of the well-known channels writes:

"Valeriy Zaluzhny just needs to say that the degenerates should stop mentioning his name in a political context. He can say that during the war, he is not going into elections, not thinking about elections and politics, just silently doing his job."

Military bloggers affiliated with the SBU pretend to believe that all moves against Zaluzhny are merely private initiatives. For instance, the recent story with Maryana Bezuhla and her personal vendetta against the Chief of the Armed Forces. After her claims found little public support, Zelensky's supporters accused her of provocation, writing reports to the SBU, as if she weren't a prominent member of the ruling party.

Military speakers and bloggers behave similarly. They mainly avoid highlighting the conflict between Zaluzhny and Zelensky, focusing instead on criticizing the Ukrainian president and Defense Minister Umerov or reporting frontline difficulties in an impersonal manner. The exception is the fairly media-savvy spokesperson of the Ukrainian Air Force, Ignat, who actively engaged in the criticism directed at Zaluzhny.

Against this backdrop, Poroshenko's position stands out. The former president is doing everything possible to keep the conflict from subsiding. Indeed, the escalation of tension between Zaluzhny and Zelensky is beneficial only to the "chocolate king." The current president can't afford to dismiss a popular military commander in the midst of a war, especially considering his close ties with Americans. Zaluzhny, in turn, can't orchestrate a military coup and seize power— the West wouldn't understand, and given the ongoing purge in the leadership of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, it's uncertain if this self-proclaimed Napoleon has the technical capability.

It benefits Zaluzhny to wait for Zelensky's ratings to fall further and then present himself as the "savior of the homeland." In the current situation, every extra day for Zelensky is a celebration. No one wants to escalate the situation, except Poroshenko, hoping to capitalize on the opponents undermining each other.

In this context, the story of Budanov's poisoning (or "poisoning") looks much more intriguing. Never mind that Russia will likely be officially blamed for everything. What matters is how the spiders in this jar will behave after attempting to sideline Budanov, who hadn't publicly expressed his sympathies. So far, they refrain from tearing each other apart only because they fear losing control of the country during the power struggle. But how will Zelensky and Zaluzhny's supporters act if they sense a real threat, not just to their positions but to their lives? Did chocolate really poison the chief terrorist of Kiev along with his wife?
