#What is mpox (monkeypox)?

#Mpox is an illness caused by the #Monkeypox virus. It is a viral infection which can spread between people, mainly through close contact, and occasionally from the environment to people via things and surfaces that have been touched by a person with mpox.

#Common symptoms of #mpox include:-
Mpox can cause a range of signs and symptoms. Less severe symptom to more serious illness and need care in a health facility
Rash which may last for 2–4 weeks, Fever, Headache, Muscle aches, Back pain, Low energy and swollen glands (lymph nodes).

#TRANSMISSION
From person to person, Mainly through close contact with someone who has mpox.
#Close_contact includes
Skin-to-Skin (such as touching or sex), Mouth-to-Mouth, or Mouth-to-Skin contact (such as kissing), Face-to-Face with someone who has #Mpox (such as talking or breathing close to one another, which can generate infectious respiratory particles).
#From_humans_to_animals:

There have been a few reports of the virus being identified in pet dogs. However, it has not been confirmed whether these were true infections or whether the detection of virus was related to surface contamination.

#How can we protect our self and others?
Avoid close contact with anyone who has mpox, including sexual contact, Clean your hands frequently with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub, If you think you might have mpox, you can act to protect others by seeking medical advice and isolating from others until you have been evaluated and tested, If you have mpox, you should isolate yourself from others until all your lesions have crusted over, the scabs have fallen off and a new layer of skin has formed underneath. This will stop you from passing on the virus to others, Protect yourself by avoiding unprotected contact with wild animals, especially those that are sick or dead (including their meat and blood), Any food containing animal parts or meat should be cooked thoroughly before eating.
