— Look at who replies in the comments under recent posts
— LinkedIn: company name + "editor" or "content manager"
Nine times out of ten the name's sitting in the byline of a non-obvious post or a LinkedIn title.
Found 12 editor names in an hour with this last week. Personalized opens crush "hi team" every time. Go dig one up.

Pitch a series, not a post
One-off guest posts are a grind — new outreach every single time.
So I stopped pitching one article. I pitch THREE on a theme, framed as a mini-column.
"I'd love to do a 3-part breakdown of [topic] for your readers — here are the titles."
Editors who say yes to a series give you a recurring slot. Now you're a regular contributor, not a one-time stranger begging.
One yes turned into 3 links from the same domain in 6 weeks. Same outreach effort, triple the output. Pitch the column. Go do it.
One-off guest posts are a grind — new outreach every single time.

Half ignore me, fine. The other half hand me a warm referral. A name + "so-and-so sent me" beats any cold pitch alive.
A rejection is a person who knows your niche and just engaged with you. Don't waste that.

Nothing worse than landing a link on a site that goes dark next month. Wasted effort, zero juice.
My 3 quick signals a blog is alive:
— Last post under 30 days old (check the archive, not the homepage slider)
— Comments or shares on recent posts, not zero
— A real human name publishing, not "admin"
If the newest post is 8 months old, the editor probably quit. Skip it.
I killed 9 "prospects" off my list this week with this filter alone. Pitch living sites only. Go.
Nothing worse than landing a link on a site that goes dark next month. Wasted effort, zero juice.
My 3 quick signals a blog is alive:
— Last post under 30 days old (check the archive, not the homepage slider)

Framing it as "helps indexing" makes it sound like you're doing THEM a favor. Often they say yes.

How I scale without sounding like a robot
You can't personalize 300 emails AND write the posts. So I split the labor by skill.
— A VA does the boring part: find sites, get editor names, log the one specific detail about each
— I do the part that converts: write the actual pitch line using their notes
The trick is the VA never sends. They just feed me a sheet of [site / editor / specific hook]. I fire 30 custom-feeling pitches in 40 minutes.
Scaled to 150 pitches a month without templated garbage. Separate research from writing. Go do it.
