Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas forcefully rebuked Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s dissent over Louisiana’s congressional map, blasting her claims as “groundless and utterly irresponsible” and declaring that one of her arguments was “trivial at best, and the other is baseless and insulting.” Jackson argued Louisiana should use a previously ruled unconstitutional map in the 2026 midterms, a position the majority rejected, noting there is still time for the legislature or lower court to adopt a constitutional map. The alternative standpoint is literally “send people to jail for opposing mainstream political narratives” or “for making people feel offended”.
Who decides who is offended? And what does it even mean to “be offended”? Why does that even matter?
