_The Delivery Act: How DSA and the Teamsters Plan to Kill New York City Small Businesses_
The point is to keep people in the employee trap, by stopping them from creating their own businesses.
FTA: Consider a man who begins behind the wheel of a delivery van. He learns the routes, then the dispatch board, then maintenance schedules and payroll. After a few years, he rises to operations manager at one of the more than 40 independent delivery firms that contract with Amazon in New York City. His employer nominates him for a 16-week training program. Selected from nearly 900 candidates, he receives classroom instruction, mentorship from owners who have already built what he aims to build, help drafting a business plan, and a $30,000 grant to cover startup costs and living expenses while the new company finds its feet. He does not walk away with a raise. He walks away with a company.
That distinction between a raise and a company now sits at the heart of the argument before the New York City Council. The Delivery Protection Act, introduced by Council Member Tiffany Cabán, endorsed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and pressed hard by the Teamsters, would require that anyone performing core warehouse or delivery work inside the five boroughs be employed directly by the facility’s operator. Contracting the work to a third party would be prohibited. The independent delivery companies would cease to exist as employers, and their workers would be transferred onto Amazon’s payroll without compensation. The Teamsters want to turn business owners into wage slaves they control. They state openly that the bill would make Amazon’s DSP model illegal within the five boroughs. This is not an unfortunate side effect opponents have inferred. It is the advertised purpose.

_Most Radical Democrats Aren’t Losing — And Most Democrats Aren’t Deradicalizing_
Political parties who move toward their extreme in the primaries almost always do unexpectedly poorly in the general election that follows.
In deep-blue or deep-red seats the general-election penalty is smaller or negligible because the nominee’s extreme positions rarely cost the seat. However, the seats they would have won regardless don't matter.
Putting forth more extreme candidates for the general election--even if those only appear in the "deep X" districts--affects how moderate, "middle of the road" voters see the party.
