Turkey announced that after the Oruc Reis conducts its seismic surveys between Kastelorizo and Rhodes, they will issue NAVTEX for seismic surveys south of Crete
>https://archive.is/hqS52

—————————————————————
While it is likely that Turkey will conduct such surveys without the EU doing something such as imposing sanctions, the threats to conduct such surveys south of Crete are not exactly new and they might spark a strong reaction from Greece once Crete is not anywhere near the Turkish coast as the Turks often try to argue that islands too close to their coast should belong to them.

This stems from the fact that Turkey does not recognizes the UNCLOS officially due to the fact that UNCLOS agrees with the fact that Islands have an EEZ, while for Turkey, officially recognizing that islands have EEZ would put them in contradiction with their actions since they conduct such seismic surveys insice Greek and Cypriot EEZ waters. Turkey does apply UNCLOS parameters to delimitate their maritime borders in the black sea without formally recognizing the UNCLOS

🔴 Erdogan says that they dont need the US' permission to test the S-400 and questioned why the US does not complain about Greece having S-300 systems
>https://archive.is/VnSrM

📰 Article
[...]
🔹"The tests of the S400 are absolutely correct and are continuing. The US approach to the issue does not bind us to anything. We will not ask the US to test. We have not only the S400, but also many other light and heavy weapons that we test. In fact, we have bought some of them from America. "

🔹He continued: "Greece has an S300 and is conducting tests. What does America say in this case? There is a Russian weapon that obviously bothers these gentlemen. We are determined to continue."

—————————————————————
‼️ The statement by Erdogan is dishonest to say the least, the S-300 systems owned by Greece were not bought unlike the Turkish S-400, for those who dont know, in 1997 and 1998, there was the "Cypriot S-300 crisis", where Cyprus wanted to install and activate S-300 systems in its territory, and Turkey threatened to declare war on Cyprus, the solution was that the S-300 would not be returned to Russia and instead the system was transferred to Greece. The crisis ended and the S-300 Systems have been in Crete since then.

Reports suggest that Greece might be negotiating with Russia a possible upgrade for the S-300 systems in Crete after Turkey performed tests of its S-400 systems

The Arab news agency Al Monitor reported today that there are possible negotiations between Greeks and Russians with the aim of upgrading the S-300 missiles , as part of Russia's plans against Ankara, which stalled in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Alexander Gorskov, the former head of the Russian Air Force's anti-aircraft missile force, told the Arab news agency that some time ago, in private talks, Greek experts had not hidden from him the fact that their negotiating maneuvers with the This, in addition to military advantages, was intended to send a clear message to Turkey and its challenges.

Until now, Western sanctions on Russia have prevented any trade with that country, but after the recent test of Turkish S-400 missiles, Greece may have decided to conclude an agreement with Russia on upgrading its missiles in Crete.

🔴 NATO to change IFF identification system due to Turkey having activated its S-400 systems and making it possible for Russia to acquire vital information about the radar signatures of allied jets such as the F-35 and F-16s among several others

🔹 "This shift is particularly problematic because of Moscow's activities in Europe and the Middle East, as it threatens key US and NATO interests. "Turkey's relocation is also worrying because of its position as a NATO member as well as its strategic position"

🔹"The joint placement of S-400s and F-35 aircraft will allow Moscow to obtain valuable information on the neutralization of 5th generation F-35s used by the US Air Force and its allies. For this reason, Washington was right expelled t avoid Ankara from the F-35 program last year"

🔹In addition, the United States and NATO are moving from a "Mode 4" aircraft identification system to a next-generation "Mode 5" encrypted system.

🔹This system allows anti-aircraft missile arrays and NATO warplanes to discern whether an unknown aircraft is friendly or hostile.

🔹The United States will never allow the Turkish S-400s to acquire Mode 5 capabilities, as this would allow Russia to "break" NATO identification codes and quickly locate NATO aircraft.
