The summit was postponed with the excuse that a security guard tested positive for COVID-19, but the real reason was the fact that Turkey had issued new NAVTEX for both Yavuz and Barbaros (a drilling ship and a seismic research ship) that are operating inside Cypriot EEZ waters, not only that but the EU's top priority seems to be sanctions on Belarus, which Cyprus had vetoed stating that it will not accept the EU to sanction belarus and not Turkey and at the time since Turkey had withdrawn their seismic research ship Oruc Reis, the sanctions were brushed aside

Now with a meeting between the Greek and Turkish FMs scheduled for after October 5 (after the summit), the sanctions will most likely not be imposed once Germany specially will most likely argue that it shows that both sides are de-escalating and will completely ignore Turkey's threats and inflamatory rhetoric. It is not clear wether Cyprus will still veto the sanctions against Belarus and demand that Turkey gets sanctioned, EU officials have been calling the Cypriot FM and President recently, trying to assure him that the EU is trying their best to make Turkey cease provocations and most likely ask Cyprus to cooperate with the Belarus sanctions

🔸 The reports state that the NGOs have been investigated for several months by both the police and the Greek Intelligence Agency which even hired foreigners to pass as illegal immigrants and record the NGO operations

🔸 the 35 people that have been charged so far are from the following countries:
Germany, Switzerland, France, Bulgaria, Spain Austria, Norway, one Iranian and one Pakistani. Being most of them from Germany, France, Norway and Austria

Some of the finds include:

» Strong evidence of Surveillance of the Greek Coast guard communication channels and their patrol routes, such surveillance was not limited to only scanning radio frequencies but also recording information

» Charts and tables with the dates and places of several smuggling operations, including some that failed and were cancelled

» The gathering places on the Turkish coast and the time of departure of specific refugee flows to the island of Lesvos and also Samos and Chios

» the coordinates (longitude and latitude) of specific illegal immigrant routs and their direction in a specific time and place in boats, as well as the general conditions during transport

» their final destination (landing area)

» Detailed information which included maps of where each of those smuggled immigrants used to live inside the now destroyed Moria camp

🔸 One of the reports mentions that a large part of the resources obtained by the investigation were acquired during a raid in 05/09 to an NGO that had their electrinic devices and other things seized. /GBG/ Archives from 06/09 show that the German "Mare Liberum" NGO is the one who got raided as they complained about the operation and stated that they would keep operating in Greece
