Herodes Atticus was a Greco-Roman politician and sophist who served as a Roman senator. Appointed consul at Rome in 143, he was the first Greek to hold the rank of consul ordinarius, as opposed to consul suffectus, (A consul elected to start the year—called a consul ordinarius —held more prestige than a suffect consul).

💥 In a recent letter, french officers assert their concern about a risk of a racial civil war in France.
📌 There are more than 20.000 signatories, including about 40 generals.
👩🏻⚖️ Following this letter, Florence Parly, the Minister of Defense appointed by Macron, has just announced that she will hunt down the signatories and that they will be excluded from the army and/or automatically retired...
⚖️ It was therefore announced that the DRSD (the military counter-intelligence service) would hunt down the signatories, and that they would be brought before a Military Council (a kind of court-martial in peacetime).
🚩 This follows the outraged reaction of the French left, which sees in the letter a "call to civil war", noting in particular that the letter was published on the same date, to the day, as the Putsch of the Generals during the Algerian War.

💥 In the last months, this conflict has led to tensions between French and English fishermen.
⚡ Today these tensions are taking a diplomatic turn as France is threatening to cut off the electricity to the English island of Jersey.

Crown from the tomb of Philip II of Macedon (382–336 BCE) and the Thracian princess Meda of Odessa (died 336 BCE) in Aigai, Macedonia. Known as the crown of Meda.
According to N. G. L. Hammond, when Philip died, Meda committed suicide so that she would follow Philip to Hades. The people of Macedonia, who were not used to such honours to their kings by their consorts, buried her with him at the Great Tumuli of Vergina, in a separate room. The second larnax found in the tomb might belong to her.
