πŸ”΄ The Turkish National Assembly today adopted a resolution condemning US President Joe Biden 's announcement of recognition of the Armenian genocide, a move that lawmakers say will have a negative impact on US-Turkey relations

πŸ”Έ "We strongly condemn Biden's statement on the events of 1915, which contains the arguments of the Armenian lobby, and we reject this unfounded slander, which has no meaning other than falsifying history for political reasons. "The president of the United States has no legal or moral right to judge on historical issues, his statement has no legal force"

πŸ”Έ Turkish lawmakers called on Biden to "reconsider" his decision, which "will inevitably have a negative impact on bilateral relations"

πŸ“° Article
[...]
πŸ”Έ Some of Turkey’s biggest banks are reluctant to finance President Erdogan’s planned Constantinople canal due to environmental concerns and the investment risks hanging over the massive construction project, four senior bankers told Reuters

πŸ”Έ The government expects to break ground in June on the canal, which would connect the Black Sea to the north with the PropontΓs Sea to the south, running 45 km (28 miles) through marshland, farms and towns on the western edge of the city

πŸ”Έ Constantinople’s mayor, engineers and, according to one poll, most citizens, oppose the project

πŸ”Έ The reluctance of some Turkish lenders to finance the project makes it more likely state and foreign financing will have to play a bigger role for Erdogan's dream. His spokesman, told Reuters the project would "certainly" attract investors and creditors when tenders are held soon

πŸ”΄πŸ”ΉπŸ”Έ MUST WATCH πŸ”ΈπŸ”ΉπŸ”΄

🟒 For those who might be interested in the relations between Turkey and Greece, a good recommendation is to watch the documentary "Lethal Nationalism: The Genocide of the Greeks 1913-1923" (2020)

🟒 It tells in detail what happened during what is known as "The Greek Genocide" when the Turks started an ethnic cleansing campaign against Greeks all over Turkey, destroying thousands of years of history

🟒 Villages, Churches, Schools and everything else that had belonged to the Greeks for thousands of years was either stolen or destroyed and 700 000+ Indigenous Greeks were killed
