Themselves vs. Theirselves

“Themselves”နဲ့ “Theirselves”က အတူတူပဲလား ❓

“Theirselves” ဆိုတာက အသုံးမှားလေ့ရှိတဲ့ common misspelling တစ်ခုဖြစ်ပြီး တကယ့်စကားလုံးတစ်ခုမဟုတ်ပါဘူး။ ဒါကြောင့် Formal writing နဲ့ speech မှာ ရှောင်ရမဲ့အမှားတစ်ခုဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

Example: They prepared theirselves for the exam. ❌

“Themselves”ကမှ စာလုံးပေါင်းအမှန်ဖြစ်ပြီး “they”ရဲ့ reflexive pronounတစ်ခုပဲဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ Reflexive pronounsတွေကိုများသောအားဖြင့် Subject နဲ့ Object တူညီတဲ့အချိန်မျိုးတွေမှာ သုံးပါတယ်။

“ice cream”နဲ့ “ice-cream”နှစ်ခုစလုံးက ရေခဲမုန့်ကိုဆိုလိုတာဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဒါပေမဲ့ သူတို့နှစ်ခုရဲ့အဓိကကွာခြားချက်က စာလုံးပေါင်းနဲ့ အသုံးပြုပုံပဲဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

“ice cream”ဆိုတဲ့ အသုံးကိို‌တော့ Americanနဲ့ British Englishမှာ ကျယ်ကျယ်ပြန့်ပြန့်သုံးကြပြီး စာအုပ်စာပေတွေမှာလည်းတွေ့နိုင်ပါတယ်။

Hyphen(-)နဲ့ “ice-cream”ကိုတော့ တစ်ခါတလေ British Englishနဲ့ ရှေးစာပေတွေမှာတွေ့ရပေမဲ့ Nounတစ်ခုအနေနဲ့သိပ်အသုံးမများပါဘူး။

Dependent and Independent Clause

Clauses ဆိုတာ Subject တစ်ခုနဲ့ Predicate တစ်ခုပါဝင်တဲ့ စကားစုတစ်ခုဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ Clause တစ်ခုဟာတစ်ခုတည်းရပ်တည်နိုင်မှုနှင့် မရပ်တည်နိုင်မှုအပေါ်မူတည်ပြီး Independent နဲ့ Dependent ကွဲသွားပါတယ်။

Independent Clauses
▫️Independent Clause တစ်ခုဆိုတာက Subject တစ်ခုနဲ့ Predicate တစ်ခုပါဝင်ပြီး စာကြောင်းတစ်ခုအဖြစ်နဲ့ရပ်တည်နိုင်ပြီး တစ်ခုတည်းအသုံးပြုရင်လည်း အဓိပ္ပာယ်ရှိပါတယ်။

Example: She enjoys reading.

Dependent Clauses
▫️Dependent Clause တစ်ခုဆိုတာဟာ Subordinating conjunction တစ်ခုနဲ့စတင်ပြီး တစ်ခုတည်းမရပ်တည်နိုင်ပါဘူး။ သူတို့ကို Independent Clause တစ်ခုနဲ့တွဲသုံးရပြီး Independent Clauseနဲ့သက်ဆိုင်တဲ့အချက်အလက်ကိုဖော်ပြပေးပါတယ်။

Example: Because she enjoys reading.

Subordinating conjunction: “Because”
Subject: “She”
Predicate: “enjoys reading”

ဒီနေရာမှာ တစ်ခုတည်းမရပ်တည်နိုင်ဘူးလို့ပြောပေမဲ့ “Because”စတဲ့စာကြောင်းတစ်ခုတည်းတွေကိုပဲ everyday conversationတွေမှာ သုံးတာခဏခဏတွေ့ရပါလိမ့်မယ်။ ကျွန်တော်တို့ everyday conversationတွေမှာ Dependent Clause တွေချည်းပဲသုံးတဲ့အခါ ဒါက Independent Clauseက သိသာနေတာကတစ်ကြောင်း၊ အတိုချုပ်ပြီးပြောချင်တာက တစ်ကြောင်းနဲ့ ထည့်မပြောတော့တာဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

Example:
Why did you do that? Because I wanted to.

ဒီမှာ Dependent Clause “Because I wanted to” သုံးထားပေမဲ့ သူ့ရဲ့စာကြောင်းအပြည့်အစုံက “I did that because I wanted to.”ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

Types of Dependant Clauses

▪️Dependant Clauseတစ်ခုဆိုဝာာ Subordinate Conjunction တစ်ခုနဲ့ စပြီး Independent Clause တစ်ခုနဲ့တွဲသုံးတဲ့ စာကြောင်းတစ်ခုဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

Dependant Clauseတွေကို Adjective Clause, Adverb Clause နဲ့ Noun Clause တစ်ခုလို့အမျိုးအစား (၃)ခု ခွဲခြားနိုင်ပါတယ်။

သူတို့တွေက ဘယ်လိုအလုပ်လုပ်တာလဲ❓

1. Adjective Clause - Nounတစ်ခုကို ဖော်ပြဖို့ အချက်အလက်တွေထည့်ပေးတဲ့နေရာမှာသုံးတဲ့ Clause ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

Example: The book, [which she borrowed from the library], was fascinating.

Translation: သူစာကြည့်တိုက်က ငှားလာတဲ့စာအုပ်က စိတ်ဝင်စားစရာကောင်းတယ်။

📌 အထက်ဖော်ပြပါ စာကြောင်းမှာ [which she borrowed from the library]က Adjective Clause တစ်ခုဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ သူက Noun phrase “the book”က ဘယ်ကရလာတာလဲဆိုတဲ့အချက်အလက်ကိုဖော်ပြပေးနေတာဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

2. Adverb Clause - Verb, Adjectives နဲ့ Adverbတွေကို informationထည့်ပေးရာမှာသုံးတဲ့ Clauseဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ များသောအားဖြင့် သူတို့ကို သုံးပြီး how, why, when, or where နဲ့မေးခွန်းတွေကိုဖြေနိုင်ပါတယ်။

Example: She stayed up late [because she was studying for an exam].

Translation: သူ စာမေးပွဲအတွက် စာကြည့်နေခဲ့တဲ့တာကြောင့် အိပ်ရာဝင်နောက်ကျသွားတယ်။

📌 အထက်ဖော်ပြပါစာကြောင်းမှာ [because she was studying for an exam]က Adverb Clause ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ သူက “stayed up late” (အိပ်ရာဝင်နောက်ကျတယ်)ဆိုတဲ့ action(Verb)ကိုဖော်ပြရာမှာသုံးတာဖြစ်ပြီး whyဆိုတဲ့အချက်အလက်ကိုဖြည့်သွင်းပေးပါတယ်။

3. Noun clause - Nounတစ်ခုအနေနဲ့အလုပ်လုပ်တဲ့ စကားစုတစ်ခုဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ Nounတွေရဲ့ အဓိက roleက စာကြောင်းတစ်ခုမှာ Subject တစ်ခု သို့်မဟုတ် Object တစ်ခုအနေနဲ့အလုပ်လုပ်ခြင်းဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

Example: [What he said] surprised everyone.

Translation: သူပြောလိုက်တဲ့အရာက အကုန်လုံးကို အံအားသင့်သွားစေခဲ့တယ်။

📌 အထက်က စာကြောင်းမှာဆို [What he said]က Noun Clause ဖြစ်ပြီး Subject တစ်ခုအနေနဲ့အလုပ်လုပ်နေတာဖြစ်ပါတယ်။
