Mistakes with prepositions

โฌœ๏ธ Prepositions are small words but they are important ones. Some common mistakes in the use of prepositions are given here.

๐Ÿ”นIncorrect: Who is the girl you were speaking with?
๐Ÿ”ธCorrect: Who is the girl you were speaking to?

๐Ÿ”นIncorrect: This is the house I was born on.
๐Ÿ”ธCorrect: This is the house I was born in.

๐Ÿ”นIncorrect: What are you looking in?
๐Ÿ”ธCorrect: What are you looking at?

๐ŸŸง To look at something is to gaze in a specified direction.

๐Ÿ”นIncorrect: The manager has promised to look at the matter.
๐Ÿ”ธCorrect: To manager has promised to look into the matter.

๐ŸŸช To look into something is to investigate it.

๐Ÿ”นIncorrect: It has been raining from Monday.
๐Ÿ”ธCorrect: It has been raining since Monday.

๐ŸŸฆ Use from to show the starting point only when the end point is also mentioned. In other cases, use since.

๐Ÿ”นIncorrect: I have been waiting from two hours.

๐ŸŸจ Use for to indicate duration.

๐Ÿ”นIncorrect: I will be attending the classes regularly since Monday.

๐ŸŸฉ Between is used when only two parties are involved. Among is used when more than two parties are involved.

Use of 'Along'
===================
๐Ÿ”–The word along can be used as a preposition or an adverb. When it is used as a preposition, it is followed by a noun.
๐Ÿ”นWe walked along the road.

๐Ÿ”–When along is used as an adverb, it is not followed by a noun.
๐Ÿ”นShe brought her children along.

๐Ÿ”–Along is used to talk about movement on or beside a line.
๐Ÿ”นShe hurried along the road towards us.

๐Ÿ”–Along is used with nouns like road, river, line etc: words that refer to things with a long thin shape.

๐Ÿ”นThere are several shops along the street.

๐Ÿ”–Along can also be used to refer to a place on or beside a river or road.
