Israel’s war on Gaza has become the deadliest for journalists in recent history. Brown University’s Costs of War project reports that, since the genocide began on October 7, 2023, more journalists have been killed in Gaza than in the US Civil War, World Wars I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the wars in the former Yugoslavia, and the post-9/11 war in Afghanistan combined.

During World War II, 69 journalists were killed, and 63 journalists died in the Vietnam War. In Gaza, the death toll has reached 242, including the recent assassination of the Al Jazeera crew, among them Anas Al-Sharif and Mohammad Qreiqea.
