In 1956, the German philosopher Günther Anders wrote a book about the manipulation of the masses. He titled it *“The Obsolescence of Man.”* These disturbing statements left a mark on history, especially in the 21st century.

Here is a brief summary of his remarks:

“To suppress any uprising in advance, there is no need to resort to violence; archaic methods like Hitler’s are completely outdated. It is enough simply to create conditioning by significantly lowering the level and quality of education. An uneducated person has only a limited horizon of thought, and the more their thinking is confined to material, mediocre concerns, the less likely they are to rebel.”

“Access to knowledge must become increasingly difficult… and the gap between the people and science must widen. Information intended for the general public should be anesthetized. Here again, we must use ‘persuasion,’ not ‘direct violence,’ and we will do the following: we will mass-broadcast mind-numbing entertainment on television that always appeals to emotions and instincts. We will occupy minds with something light and playful. Continuous chatter and music are beneficial. We must not allow the mind to ‘ask questions,’ ‘think,’ or ‘reflect.’ We will place ‘SEXUALITY’ at the forefront of human interests, as a social anesthetic. We will ensure the banishment of seriousness from existence, maintaining a constant glorification of triviality, so that consumption becomes the standard of human happiness.”

Colonel Travis did not wait for the biggest war chest or the latest poll numbers before he drew that line in the sand. He did not beg for permission or play it safe. He asked for men willing to fight for something bigger than themselves. Ordinary Texans stepped up, driven by conviction, fueled by faith, and motivated by love of home and country. That is the spirit that built Texas (and helped shape the America we need).

Today, we are told that campaigns are won by whoever raises the most money. We are told that power belongs to whoever can buy the most airtime. We tend to forget that this nation was built by people with grit, faith, and an unbreakable will to defend their home.
