“I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan. This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace. All Parties will be treated fairly! This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen. The Nobel Committee awarded this year's peace prize to Maria Corina Machado amid calls for President Donald Trump to receive the award in the wake of his brokering a historic deal between Israel and Hamas.
Machado, a Venezuelan opposition leader, was described as a "brave and committed champion of peace" by Joergen Watne Frydnes, chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
"She is receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy," Frydnes said.
White House communications director Steven Cheung said Trump "will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives."

On December 4, 2018, Maria Corina Machado wrote a letter to Bibi Netanyahu and the Argentinian government against for his assistance in overthrowing the Maduro regime. (Note the notarization from the Argentinian embassy.)
Here is the letter translated into English:
The population of Venezuela needs international protection against the generalized and systematic attack to which it is being subjected by the Venezuelan regime. This is evidenced by the report dated May 29, 2018, presented by the Organization of American States to the International Criminal Court. This report has been the basis for nine states — among them Argentina — to denounce the regime before that international body. We deeply appreciate this initiative, which is crucial for ending Venezuela’s tragedy.
It must be emphasized that it is not only our population that is suffering from this generalized and systematic attack by the current regime. Its criminal nature — closely linked to drug trafficking and terrorism — represents a threat to other countries as well, including, and especially, Israel. The current regime, which has systematically dismantled Venezuela’s institutions, openly collaborates with Iran and extremist groups who share the same anti-Israel and anti-Semitic agenda. The tragedy of the Venezuelan people thus also has global implications. The AMIA attack in 1994 revealed to the world the reach of these networks, which today are operating from Venezuelan territory.
I am convinced that the international community, as part of its “responsibility to protect” doctrine, is called upon to help Venezuelans stop this attack, which constitutes a crime against humanity. The time has come for concrete action that will protect Venezuelans’ lives and freedom, as well as regional and global stability.
In that regard, I respectfully appeal to the governments of Argentina and Israel to promote within the United Nations Security Council the adoption of immediate protection measures for Venezuelans and to request that the situation in Venezuela be referred to the International Criminal Court, invoking Chapter VII of the UN Charter. This mechanism would allow the international community to assume its responsibility to protect Venezuela’s population and prevent the regime from continuing its campaign of extermination.
Such measures would be consistent with the values that both Argentina and Israel have historically upheld in defense of freedom and human dignity. Argentina, as a nation that has suffered terrorism and has bravely faced its consequences, and Israel, as a democratic state that has endured constant aggression, both know that appeasement of such regimes only strengthens them.
It is urgent to recognize the Venezuelan regime as a transnational criminal organization that has usurped power, posing a threat not only to our citizens but to regional and global security. Venezuela’s geographic location, its vast natural resources, and its connections to international criminal networks make it a base for operations that endanger other countries. Therefore, the international community must act with determination and moral clarity.
I am convinced that a free and democratic Venezuela will be a strategic ally for the democratic nations of the world, particularly for Israel. A Venezuela that reclaims its freedom will contribute to peace, stability, and prosperity across the region.
Please receive my cordial greetings on behalf of Venezuela, whose national territory cannot and must not remain under the domination of tyranny that destroys human dignity.
Signed,
Maria Corina Machado

Text of the letter from the Republican Congressmen.
Dear Members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee:
We write to you in support of the nomination of María Corina Machado for the Nobel Peace Prize.
In our work as policymakers who strive for democracy and human rights in the face of dictatorial regimes in the Western Hemisphere and beyond, we have rarely witnessed such courage, selflessness, and firm grasp of morality as we have in María Corina Machado.
She has risked everything to rally the previously flagging spirits of the Venezuelan people. They have suffered 25 years of oppression, torture, murder, and economic deprivation at the hands of the Chavez-Maduro regime who has systematically undermined democratic institutions and perpetuated a regional crisis of monumental proportions. Machado stands as a beacon of hope and resilience.
Despite enduring severe personal threats, including attempts on her life, Machado has remained steadfast in her commitment to restoring democratic governance in Venezuela. Her leadership is instrumental in mobilizing both domestic and international support for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing electoral fraud crisis. Her tireless efforts to advocate for free and fair elections and to bring attention to the human rights abuses occurring under the current regime embody the very principles that the Nobel Peace Prize seeks to honor. Machado’s efforts to bring a democratic peace to Venezuela benefit her country, as well as the region and the world.
In the recent election, Machado’s work has showcased her unwavering resolve and ability to inspire and rally others towards the noble cause of democracy. Her actions reflect a deep-seated belief in justice, human rights, and the rule of law—values that are foundational to the mission of the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Maduro regime's abuses and assaults on the civil society and legitimate political activity of Venezuelan citizens have caused millions to flee to other countries, while millions more have had no choice but to remain in the prison Maduro has imposed on them. The peace of the region has been greatly disturbed by Maduro’s welcoming of some of the world’s worst actors, including terrorists and dictators who support him.
It is our firm belief that María Corina Machado’s courageous and selfless leadership, and unyielding dedication to the pursuit of peace and democratic ideals, make her a most deserving candidate for this prestigious award. Her efforts not only highlight the urgent need for international solidarity in the face of aggressive and expansive authoritarianism but also serve as a reminder of the power of individual
bravery in the quest for justice.
María Corina Machado's peaceful resistance to tyrants and her ability to organize and lead a non-violent movement for democracy and human rights is exemplary. Her unwavering moral compass and commitment to democratic peace for her country and the region are an example to the world. She and the movement she created represents a stark contrast to the Maduro dictatorship and its supporters around the world who have helped him subdue, oppress and impoverish the people of Venezuela.
We hope that the Nobel Committee will recognize María Corina Machado’s remarkable contributions and grant her the distinction she so rightly deserves.
