The EU is preparing to lift sanctions on assets linked to Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska in order to compensate Austria’s Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI) for losses in Russia, the Financial Times reported on Friday, citing EU officials.

The Austrian lender is among the few foreign banks still operating in Russia despite Western sanctions imposed after the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022. It facilitates euro and dollar transactions and is listed by Russia’s central bank as one of 13 systemically important lenders. RBI has been scaling back its Russian operations under pressure from EU and US regulators.

A draft of the EU’s new sanctions package includes a plan to release around €2 billion ($2.1 billion) in Strabag shares, an Austrian construction group once part-owned by the sanctions-hit Russian billionaire, people familiar with the matter told the FT. Deripaska, the founder of aluminum giant Rusal, was blacklisted by the EU in 2022.

The shares would reportedly be transferred to Raiffeisen to offset a €2 billion damages payment the bank was ordered by a Russian court to make in a dispute with a Deripaska-linked business.

While Netanyahu pays lip service to Trump’s peace proposal, he is signaling that he intends to cry foul and pull out of it.

However, Ben Gvir said he now lacks the power to stop what he termed the “surrender deal” because Netanyahu expanded the coalition by bringing in Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar’s New Hope party in September last year.

In his post, Ben Gvir listed his reasons for opposing the proposed three-phase deal, which would see the freeing of dozens of hostages held in Gaza, both alive and dead.

Ben Gvir said the deal, which will include the release of hundreds of Palestinian security prisoners from Israel, would enable the rehabilitation of terror groups in Gaza and bring back the threat to residents in border areas.

Opposition Leader Yair Lapid said Ben Gvir’s comments proved his claims that the government failed to make a deal for political reasons. Netanyahu and the government have long denied the allegations, blaming Hamas for the lack of agreement.

“For more than a year I have been saying that ‘they are not reaching a hostage deal for political reasons’ and everyone tells me that this cannot be, that it’s shocking, and how could I say such a thing,” Lapid posted on X.

“And today Ben Gvir puts out a video and says to the camera, without blinking, that is the terrible truth,” he said.

Why are the trying to preemptively take a guy down before anyone has ever heard of him? Why was it paired with an attack on blockchain technology? Why was it pitching dispensationalist Judeo Christianity? Why is Nick Land's Dark Enlightenment 'other,' Curtis Yarvin (a secular Jewish Scientific Materialist who went to Brown), mentioned positively?

I've read a fair amount of Nick Land's writing and spent the last year following him closely. Conrad Flynn was just straight up defaming him on Tucker Carlson's "independent" but still owned by NewsCorp podcast.
