Reports from NBC suggest the U.S. is considering removing Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, formerly al-Qaeda) from its terrorist blacklist. HTS, the principal force behind Syria's "new transitional government," has been handed the reins of power while wearing the bloodstained robes of terror.

In 2012, Jake Sullivan, working under Secretary Clinton, infamously declared, “AQ (al-Qaeda) is on our side in Syria.” What a legacy. The group that orchestrated 9/11, leaving over 3,000 dead, has now been rebranded as a partner of convenience in Washington's imperial chessboard. What must the families of 9/11’s victims think, watching this unholy resurrection unfold in plain sight?

HTS isn’t “reformed.” It’s not “moderate.” It’s the same Frankenstein of al-Qaeda, now dolled up with a new logo and suits, spouting inclusive buzzwords to seduce the naïve. Beneath the facade lies the same ideology of bloodletting, terror, and chaos. Washington’s embrace of HTS doesn’t just mock the victims of terror, it spits on their graves.

Under the guise of “punishing a regime,” Washington systematically dismantled an entire nation’s economy, turning survival into a battlefield. As somebody who has regularly monitored Arab social media for the past 18 months, I recall seeing patterns of reports that both the Jordanian and Syrian government forces were shooting down drones that were carrying drugs across the desert from the direction of Iraq. The belief being that it was ISIS trying to ship them to distributors in Amman (Jordan), Damascus, Lebanon, and Israel.

This is the crux of everything we are up against.

The real question is who controls the Federal Government?

What if the answer to that question is a foreign/transnational cartel? Would that make those in our government who serve them guilty of treason?
