Top US General ‘Not Surprised’ By Ukraine’s Slow Offensive

Ukraine’s counteroffensive against Russia will be highly costly for its troops and will continue for a few months, US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley said on Friday.

Speaking at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, the top US military commander offered his take on the Ukraine conflict, saying, “It doesn’t surprise me at all” that Kiev’s much-hyped counteroffensive is going slower than expected.

“I had said this is going to take six, eight, ten weeks. It’s going to be very difficult. It’s going to be very long, and it’s going to be very, very bloody,” he said, noting that Kiev’s advance has been hampered by Russian minefields.

“No one should have any illusions about any of that,” he stressed, adding that Ukraine is fighting for survival against a strong adversary.

Russia Restores Regular Flights To Cuba

Russia resumed regular flights to Cuba following a more than a year-long suspension, Russia's Aeroflot group announced on Saturday. Aeroflot’s subsidiary, Rossiya Airlines, will operate them.

The first scheduled plane bound for the Cuban resort of Varadero departed from Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow early on Saturday.
According to Sergey Starikov, the official representative of Rossiya Airlines, “the demand for tickets is enormous,” with each flight nearly 100% booked.

Russian Senator Fears For Safety Of French Nuclear Arsenal Amid Riots

The ongoing violence on the streets of French cities gives grounds for concern over the safety of the country’s nuclear arsenal, Russian senator Andrey Klishas has suggested.

In a series of posts on his Telegram channel on Saturday, Klishas argued that calls should be made for the “French police to exercise restraint.”   

“EU leaders [should] discuss the stability of the political regime in France and check whether the nuclear arsenal is safe,” the politician wrote.   
Klishas also pointed out that the French “people didn’t go onto the streets to defend Macron’s regime.”   

Nuclear War Possible If The US Deploys Nuclear Weapons To Poland — Ex-Russian President

A nuclear war could start if the US accommodates Poland’s desire to place nuclear weapons there, former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev has said. Earlier this week, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called on NATO to include Warsaw in the bloc’s nuclear-sharing program.

In a Telegram post on Saturday, Medvedev shared his response to a request for comment by TASS.
The former head of state described the Polish leadership as “patented degenerates.” With such people in power in Warsaw, nuclear weapons would mean they “will be used.”

Medvedev, currently serving as the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, noted that such a scenario would have a positive side, too.
