The U.S. military is rapidly expanding its footprint in the Middle East, moving additional fighter aircraft, ships, air defense, and support assets into the region. - The Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group is in the Indian Ocean and will soon enter theโ€ฆ

In the Middle East, the U.S. and Israel are planning to limit Iranโ€™s oil exports to China: a regional version of the American Energy Dominance

Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump and Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu met at the White House to discuss
๐Ÿงต

The regional security architecture and Israelโ€™s concerns over the Iranian nuclear program and missile capabilities. The U.S. is diplomatically approaching Iran through high-stakes negotiations. These were held in Oman last week, with new rounds scheduled in Geneva, Switzerland.

Washington is maintaining parallel pressure on Tehran by moving a second aircraft carrier strike group, from the Caribbean Sea closer to the Persian Gulf. While threats of war sound more credible than ever, a discussion between Trump and Netanyahu over Iranโ€™s oil exports to China emerged from reports of last weekโ€™s summit. Apparently, the two leaders agreed to exert further pressure on Iran by attempting to slash oil exports to China, a strategy that mirrors the policy the U.S. implemented in Venezuela following the capture of former President Maduro. It is, however, less clear how the U.S. might implement such a bold plan, or whether Israeli forces would be involved in an unprecedented attempt to intercept Iranian oil tankers while they are navigating towards China. A selective oil blockade on Iranโ€™s oil would certainly have major implications for inbound and outbound energy cargoes at the Strait of Hormuz while, at the same time, the move would also have severe repercussions on China-Israel relationship. In response to the news, Chinaโ€™s foreign ministry reiterated that
โ€œnormal cooperation between countries conducted within the framework of international law is reasonable and legitimate, and should be respected and protected.โ€

After the U.S. intervention in Venezuela, any attempt to limit Iranโ€™s oil trade with China will be perceived in Beijing as a direct threat to national energy security. Energy leverage is real leverage. Limiting adversaries' oil revenue while strengthening U.S. production shifts the balance of power without firing a shot. That's strategic pressure, not escalation. That depends on where you are sitting in the trading network of oil. Seen from Beijing, this is a clear move that threatens the security of supplies

US Treasury bills are considered to be one of the world's most popular risk-free investments. However, rising debt obligations and geopolitics have increased their scrutiny but they're still considered to be virtually "risk-free".

The past 1 year has seen rise in geopolitic tensions and a shift to gold reserves as a safe haven. A few countries have increased their holdings significantly in US Treasuries, while a few have decreased. Can you spot the trend?

Largest increase:

1) United Kingdom (UK): $122 bn
2) Belgium: $120 bn
3) Japan: $116 bn
4) Canada: $100 bn
5) Norway: $56 bn

Largest decrease:

1) China: $86 bn
2) Brazil: $61 bn
3) India: $48 bn
4) Hong Kong: $10 bn
5) Ireland: $3 bn

#Uranium prices are about to surge.

- Utilities largely avoided buying uranium in size over the past few years
- As of today, 2/3 of uranium demand through 2045 remains uncovered

At some point, utilities will have to step in and start buying.

When they do, prices will move much higher, because supply remains extremely tight.

And Paying higher prices wonโ€™t be an issue.
Fuel costs make up only ~5% of utility OpEx.

Worlds biggest nickel mine has been told to slash production

- It accounts for ~17% of global nickel production
- Its production quota has been cut by ~70%

That reduction is massive... effectively the equivalent of wiping out ~4 of the top 2 producing mines.

Low prices are the cure for low prices.
Samsungโ€™s solid-state #silver battery could be a game changer.

- Needs ~1 kg of silver per 100 kWh vs ~20 g for lithium batteries
- Has ~2x the range
- Charges ~4x faster
- Lasts ~2x longer
- Is much safer

Just a doubling of range could mean a ~2 kg silver content that would save a ~$14K battery replacement.

If just 10% of global EV production adopted this technology, it could add ~55 m oz of annual silver demand, in a market that has already recorded deficits for 6 consecutive years.

Industrial silver demand remains strong

#BRICS countries say they will soon introduce digital currency to reduce dollar dominance in the world.

#BRICS countries say they will soon introduce digital currency to reduce dollar dominance in the world.
If BRICS pulls this off, it wonโ€™t just be about a new digital currencyโ€ฆ itโ€™ll be about leverage.

The dollar dominance isnโ€™t just economics, itโ€™s influence, sanctions power, trade settlement control. So the real question is not โ€œcan they build it?โ€,itโ€™s โ€œcan they trust each other enough to use it?โ€

China and India have border tensions. Russia is sanctioned. Brazil shifts politically every few years. South Africa has its own domestic pressures.

A shared currency needs shared discipline.

This will spark headlines, but adoption is where the real battle is. The dollar didnโ€™t become dominant by announcement. It became dominant by trust, liquidity and global usage.

Letโ€™s see who actually settles oil and trade in it first

Robert Friedland: We don't have the #copperโ€ฆ youโ€™re dreaming

- In human history, we have mined ~700 Mt of copper
- In the next 18 yrs, we need to mine the same amount as in the last 10k yrs
- And thatโ€™s without factoring in renewables, data centers or wars

Copper is essential to modern life, yet most people assume it will always be available.... It wonโ€™t.

- Since 1900, energy required to produce copper is up 16x
- Water consumption is up 2x
- Mines are deeper and smaller
- Grades are declining

We now need more resources to produce the same amount of copper.

- 6 Tier-1 copper mines must come online every year for the next 24 yrs
- The last major copper mine came online in 2021
- Major copper discoveries are down ~80% over the past 2 decades

We are heading toward a copper supply shortage.
