Chevron’s $22B Push for the Oil Crown 👑

Why 2026 Is Lining Up in Its Favor?

Chevron is walking into 2026 with 2 Washington backed growth levers that no other major can replicate right now.

Add Iraq’s latest move against Lukoil, and the strategic picture sharpens fast.

🇻🇪#Venezuela:
Before #Maduro’s capture, Chevron was already the only Western major with a live US licence to produce and export Venezuelan crude via PDVSA JVs.

Now Washington has openly signalled that #Chevron operating restrictions can be eased quickly if political and contractual conditions align.

🇷🇺 #Lukoil:
Chevron, alongside #Quantum, is a front-runner for Lukoil’s $22bn non-Russian portfolio, spanning refineries, upstream stakes and retail assets across Europe and MENA.

The #Trump administration has explicitly backed an American owner-operator.

Rival bids from traders and financial players have been blocked.

If completed, Chevron can selectively absorb:

Refining and marketing cash flow.
Strategic assets adjacent to existing positions like Tengiz.
Infrastructure stripped of direct Russia risk.
Iraq just tightened the squeeze on Lukoil

This week, Iraq approved the nationalisation of petroleum operations at West Qurna-2 oilfield, pushing LUKOIL out of operatorship and transferring control to Basra Oil Company.

Even outside Western sanctions, Russian operatorship is being rolled back.

The incentive to monetise overseas assets now just increased.

More urgent for the seller.

Better aligned with Washington’s objective of moving assets into friendly hands

Why this sets Chevron apart going into 2026

Chevron has:
Policy tailwinds, not just asset optionality.

Exposure to post-Maduro Venezuela if sanctions ease.

A seat at the table as Russian assets are systematically unwound.

The ability to add barrels and cash flow selectively, not at the top of the cycle.

So Chevron is emerging as Washington’s preferred consolidator of sanctioned and distressed hydrocarbon assets.

If executed with discipline, that position can translate into outsized production, trading leverage, and free cash flow as the decade unfolds.

Is Chevron quietly becoming the most geopolitically advantaged major of the next cycle?

We’re extending the Venezuela Volatility to include two new surprise assets: Exxon ($XOM) and Chevron ($CVX). Trade these stocks with up to 50x leverage and the deepest liquidity onchain.

Remember, this week Venezuela assets have double the points and half the fees!

BREAKING: President Trump says executives of US defense contractors will no longer be allowed to make more than $5 million unless they build "new and modern production plants."

Trump also says he is banning dividends and stock buybacks for defense companies until these problems are "rectified."
Chinese Port Expansion in Africa

Colonialism 2.0?

This map highlights China's extensive maritime footprint across Africa:

Chinese-financed, developed, or managed port projects (dozens across the continent, from Morocco to South Africa).

- Heavy concentration along West Africa (e.g., Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Sierra Leone) and East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique).

- Strategic presence in chokepoints: Suez approaches (Egypt), Bab el-Mandeb (Djibouti), and Mozambique Channel.

- Several countries (shaded pink) have multiple viable dual-use ports.

- Gray-shaded countries have ongoing Chinese port projects.

The map illustrates #China's growing network of commercial #ports with clear dual-use (civilian and military) potential, enhancing Beijing's logistical reach and influence across #Africa and key global shipping lanes.
With U.S. forces seizing the Russian-flagged & Iranian-linked vessel Marinera (Bella 1) north of the Scottish coast, it’s worth mentioning the importance of the GIUK gap.

The Greenland-Iceland-United Kingdom Gap is the “defense wall” against Russian & Chinese submarines
The United States has seized a fourth oil tanker (Skipper, Centuries, Sophia), the Marinera, this time flying the Russian flag, in Europe, in the North Atlantic, between Iceland and Scotland, pursuant to a federal warrant for violating sanctions imposed by... the United States.

The Marinera received temporary authorization on December 24 to sail under the flag of the Russian Federation, issued based on Russian law and international law.

Russia is expected to legally challenge its seizure before the relevant international bodies, citing violations of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), which protects freedom of navigation and the integrity of ships flying the flag of a sovereign state.

Incidentally, I would like to point out that the United States, Canada, and Russia are the only oil-producing powers that are only minimally dependent on maritime transit due to their extensive land-based shipping networks. A general insecurity of maritime transit (which could worsen sharply in the event of a conflict with Iran and possible impacts on transit in the Strait of Hormuz) would harm all their competitors (Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Iraq, Iran, etc.) and could contribute to maintaining a rise in the price of crude oil.

BREAKING: President Trump says he has determined that the US Military budget should be increased to $1.5 trillion in 2027 due to “tremendous” tariff revenue.

This would be a near-70% increase from 2025 levels.
