Copper supply crunch !

Demand outlook surging to 40 Mt by 2040 (from ~25 Mt in 2015), driven by grids , other energy tech, construction & more.

Mining requirements primary mined supply needed (dashed line) rising sharply, but expected from announced projects (orange bars) peaks 30 Mt then declines to 15 Mt by 2040.

Result: Massive shortfall ahead unless way more projects get greenlit. Declining grades + delays = structural deficit.

The copper supercycle is real and supply is the bottleneck.

First Quantum Minerals just sold a copper mine in Spain for up to US$190 million.

Las Cruces is a past-producing copper operation, fully permitted, with infrastructure in place and a clear redevelopment pathway. On paper, it’s exactly the kind of asset most mid-tier miners say they want.

Private equity continues to snap up these types of mid-tier assets. Resource Capital Funds is taking the long view here. Patient capital. Comfortable underwriting development risk in exchange for upside that listed producers can’t currently justify.

The structure tells the real story, roughly US$45 million upfront. A loan note. The balance pushed into milestone and performance-based payments. This isn’t a fire sale, but it’s also not a bet the farm acquisition.

Private capital is stepping into complexity, taking on development risk. Backing assets that need time, patience, and disciplined execution.

Electrification hasn’t slowed. But ownership of future supply is quietly shifting toward groups willing to wait and play the long game. That’s where the next cycle is being built.

OPEC+ set to hold production steady again in January!

Group likely to confirm no change to current output policy at tomorrow's JMMC meeting extending the ~2.2M bpd voluntary cuts through Q1 2026.

Why pause?Oil $57-58/bbl (#WTI) well below Saudi/Russia comfort zone ($80-90)

Persistent global surplus despite geopolitics
Weak seasonal demand + rising non-OPEC supply (US, Brazil, Guyana)

Market reaction: Prices dipped further on the news bears in control heading into 2026.

Next real decision point: March/April when some cuts expire.
Any early unwind unlikely unless prices spike hard.OPEC+ discipline holding... for now.

πŸ“Œ Takeaway for Traders β€” Expect headline‑sensitive FX/rates moves: Fed minutes and Spain inflation data are near‑term catalysts; pronounced Russia β†’ Europe gas decline and weaker Russian crude flows to India add geopolitical supply risks for energy markets; yuan strength and Chinese market caution shape EM/commodity flows. Position risk accordingly and watch bond yields across US/UK/EUR for cross‑currency pressure.

End of brief β€” monitor Fed minutes, Spain data, and Russian energy export flows for next directional moves.
