Furthermore, it benefits from relatively easy logistics, as it is located only 14 kilometers from the coast of the Iberian Peninsula.

Another key point is that it constitutes a direct external border of the European Union. Ceuta, along with Melilla, is the only land border of the European Union in Africa.

This is why it functions as a critical point for migration flows from the African continent to Europe and requires constant coordination of defense and border control with Morocco. Although this latter aspect already seems to be lost.

Ceuta has belonged to Spain for over five centuries (following its Portuguese conquest in 1415 and subsequent union).

It is fully integrated into the Spanish constitutional structure and is NOT considered a colony by the UN, contrary to what many mistakenly claim.
