Jeff Bezos just described AI in three words that make most of the economy temporary.
Bezos: βAI is real and it is going to change every industry. In fact itβs a very unusual technology in that regard in that itβs a horizontal enabling layer.β
Horizontal enabling layer.
Not a product. Not a platform. Not a feature.
A layer. Underneath everything.
Everyone is asking which AI company wins.
Bezos is telling you that is the wrong question entirely.
A horizontal layer does not produce winners. It produces a new floor. Everything standing on the old one either gets rebuilt or gets erased.
This has happened exactly twice in modern history.
Electricity. The internet.
Both times the same pattern.
The new layer appeared. The old economy kept running above it. Revenue held. Careers continued. Everything looked normal.
Then quietly and permanently the entire structure reorganized around the new substrate.
The people who did not move were not outcompeted.
They were made structurally irrelevant.
Not because they were wrong. Because the ground they stood on stopped being ground.
Bezos is telling you it is happening a third time.
Not with a product. Not with a platform.
With intelligence itself becoming infrastructure.
A horizontal layer does not compete with the expert. It makes expertise free.
It hands a 22 year old with zero credentials the same cognitive output you spent a decade and a quarter million dollars learning to produce.
For $20 a month.
That is not disruption. Disruption replaces a product with a better product.
This dissolves the scarcity your entire career was priced on.
Not because the work disappeared. Because the wall around it did.
Every profession that exists because knowledge is hard to acquire.
Every company that profits because analysis takes time.
Every industry that survives because complexity locks outsiders out.
All of it rests on a single assumption.
That cognition is scarce.
AI does not challenge that assumption. It retires it.
The people who understand this are already rebuilding. Quietly. Deliberately. While everyone else argues about whether the thing underneath them is real.
Bezos did not give you a prediction.
He gave you a position on a map.
You are either above the new layer or beneath it.

Be so delusional that reality has no choice but to bend to your vision.
Be such a psychopath that you believe anything is possible for your life.
Be so obsessed that people think you've completely lost your mind.
Be so relentless that giving up doesn't even cross your mind as an option.
Be so committed that your worst-case scenario is still better than average.
Be so focused that distractions physically can't penetrate your attention.
Be so ambitious that mediocrity becomes your biggest nightmare.

β According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump is leaning towards expanding (βοΈ) military operations against Iran. At yesterday's meeting, the possible seizure of Khark Island, a key center for Iranian oil exports, was discussed. Axios also reports on preparations for a large-scale campaign that will go beyond strikes in the Strait of Hormuz area.
β Donald Trump: When the conflict with Iran is over, we will have oil at $55.
β The US Central Command announced the start of a new wave of strikes against Iran. The Iranian agency Mehr reported explosions in Ahvaz and Chabahar. The targets of the US military remain air defense systems, radars, missile complexes, and drone facilities.
β Reuters, citing three US officials, reports that the current strikes are simultaneously clearing the way for more complex military operations in the event of further escalation.
β US Vice President James D. Vance stated that Washington will not (βοΈ) conduct a ground operation to change the government in Iran.
β Donald Trump stated that representatives of Iran want to meet, but he refused to set a deadline for negotiations: "They are better off behaving well."
β At the same time, the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that negotiations with the US are not planned β Tehran is focused on defense.
β The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, called on government agencies to unite and stated that the country should not be afraid of either war or negotiations. He called the situation in the Strait of Hormuz a matter of national security.
β Iran is signaling that it may attempt to block the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait with the help of the Houthis, creating a second strategic front against the US and its allies.
β US military forces stopped and turned around two Iran-linked ships that were attempting to violate the renewed maritime blockade.
β The US is studying options for a military operation against Cuba (βοΈ), including a large-scale airborne operation involving thousands of soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division (CBS).

Russia lost its LAST untouched refinery.
SALAVAT, deep in Bashkortostan, survived every Ukrainian strike this year until last night.
Drones flew 1,500 km to reach it, hitting both primary processing units and setting the plant on fire.
It handles 10 million tons of oil a year.
The same night, Ukraine also hit the Afipsky refinery in Krasnodar (6.25 million tons/year) and an oil transshipment hub at Gelendzhik that feeds Russia's military logistics.
Local officials confirmed both fires. Russian air defenses stopped none of it.
The message: there's NO REFINERY LEFT in Russia that's actually out of reach anymore.

India is the world's biggest buyer of Russian crude.
Now Russian oil companies are asking India for gasoline instead.
Rosneft, Gazprom Neft, and Lukoil have all approached Indian refiners.
At least 1 cargo already sailed, moved through ship to ship transfers near Egypt to obscure the paper trail.
Nearly 40% of Russian refining capacity will not come back for at least 2 months.
The country that sells Russia crude is now the country Russia buys fuel from. That is what the refinery campaign actually broke.

India just nearly doubled its windfall tax on diesel and jet fuel exports.
Diesel duty from 8.5 to 15.5 rupees a liter. Jet fuel from 7.5 to 14.5.
At the same time, the petrol export duty was cut, from 4 to 2.5 rupees a liter.
That is not a blanket tax hike.
It is India taxing the products in the tightest global supply, diesel and jet fuel, while leaving petrol exports comparatively unbothered.
New rates apply from July 16.

The IMF just measured this war against every major oil disruption in modern history. It is now the largest.
Every crisis eventually shows up in the barrels, whether or not the price reflects it yet.
Russia's war in Ukraine, barely 0.1 billion barrels lost
The Iraq war, 0.4 billion
The 1973 oil shock, 0.5 billion
The Iranian revolution, 0.7 billion
The Gulf War, 1.5 billion
This war, 2.3 billion and still falling
Crude prices do not fully reflect this yet, per the IMF's own words, because demand destruction, non Gulf production, and inventory draws absorbed it.
Those buffers are smaller now.

Coffee, beef, oranges, and aerospace parts got carved out too.
But energy is the one that matters for this feed.
Even in a trade war picking fights with a country the US already runs a surplus against, energy supply chains are the 1 thing Washington will not touch.
That is consistent with every other move covered this month. Energy security outranks trade politics every time.
