US oil prices crash to $83/barrel as Iran officially reopens the Strait of Hormuz for the remainder of the ceasefire.
The US is considering a "$20 billion cash-for-uranium deal" with Iran as part of a new "3 page peace plan," per Axios.
Details include:
1. The US and Iran are negotiating over a 3-page plan to end the war
2. One element under discussion is that the US would release $20 billion in frozen Iranian funds in return for Iran giving up its stockpile of enriched uranium
3. Some of Iran's highly enriched uranium would be shipped to a third country and some would be down-blended in Iran under international monitoring
4. Iran would be allowed to have nuclear research reactors for the production of medical isotopes, but would pledge that all of its nuclear facilities would be above ground
A second round of US-Iran talks is expected in Pakistan on Sunday.

JPMorgan says the Crypto Market Structure Bill is close to completion.
Contentious issues have been narrowed down from over a dozen to just 2-3. Stablecoin regulation is now reportedly in a good place.
The bill must clear the Senate Banking Committee by mid May to get a floor vote before Memorial Day. Senator Moreno has warned that if it does not reach the Senate floor by May it gets shelved until 2027.
JPMorgan says if passed it will reshape market structure, promote tokenization, and bring in institutional capital that has been sitting on the sidelines waiting for regulatory clarity.

🚨Houston, we have a problem.
Actually... Houston, you have an opportunity.
🤖 AI data centres electricity demand:
2024: 100 TWh
2025: +50% → 150 TWh
2030: 3x → 450 TWh
💻 Conventional data centres:
2024: 315 TWh
2030: +44% → 480 TWh
Total by 2030: nearly 1,000 TWh of data centre demand alone.
While the world panics about Hormuz and energy scarcity
Texas is sitting on cheap, abundant energy.
Pipelines already built.
Grid already stressed but expandable.
And every hyperscaler knows it.
🇺🇸 US natural gas: record 118.5 bcf/day
⚡ Texas power: cheapest industrial rates in the US
🏗️ Data centres: flooding into Houston right now
The Iran war made US energy dominant globally.
AI is making Texas the data capital of the world.
Same story.
Different sector.
Cheap and reliable energy always wins.

▪️Market expectations (Fed rate):
- PAUSE until January 2027.
▪️Goolsbee, Fed Chairman:
- If oil costs $90 per barrel month after month, this would start to affect other prices. I don't think this oil shock is similar to what happened in the 1970s.
- I'm concerned about how long the conflict between Iran and the US will last. Before the war, I was optimistic about a rate cut.
- The longer the war lasts and the higher inflation remains, the more the rate cut will be shifted beyond 2026.
- I see a small but real risk for the Fed on two fronts at once.
▪️Hammack, Fed Chairman:
- The risks for monetary policy are two-sided. We need to look at both inflation and how energy costs affect the economy.
▪️Williams, Fed Chairman:
- The war in the Middle East is already intensifying inflation. I see the first signs of disruptions in supply chains.
- If the conflict ends quickly, this should help ease inflationary pressure.
- Liquidity is better than expected given the uncertainty. The Treasury bond market is working extremely well.
▪️Daly, Fed Chairman:
- My forecast depends on how long oil prices will rise and how long the conflict will last.
- It's too early to say whether the oil shock will be short-term or sustained. Everything depends on how long the conflict lasts: if it ends soon, we will return to the rate trajectory we were on.
- If the conflict persists, inflationary pressure will last longer. The oil shock is likely to have a greater impact on inflation than on economic growth.
▪️Waller, Fed Chairman:
- I'm not worried about the dollar losing its status as a reserve currency. It's still trusted.
