$INTC says it is joining the Terafab project alongside $TSLA, SpaceX & xAI to help modernize silicon fab technology. Its role is to bring chip design, fabrication & packaging at scale to support Terafabβs goal of producing 1 TW per year of compute for AIβ¦
Elon Musk just made the most powerful man in American manufacturing his chip builder.
Intel, the company Wall Street wrote off two years ago is now the fabrication backbone of a $25 billion project involving Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI.
This was not a coincidence.
The US government owns a stake in Intel, and Musk has been pushing for a fully American chip supply chain.
The politics and the business strategy just merged into a single handshake.
Here is what Terafab actually is.
It is a planned semiconductor mega-facility in Austin, Texas, designed to produce one terawatt of AI compute every single year.
Every chip fab on Earth combined currently produces about 20 gigawatts per year but Musk wants 50 times that alone.
The world thought Tesla was a car company then it thought Tesla was an energy company.
Now Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI are attempting to become the dominant force in semiconductor manufacturing.
And Intel desperately needed this.
The company had been losing ground to TSMC and Samsung for years, bleeding customers and credibility.
Now it is the foundry partner for the most ambitious chip project in American history.
The chips are not just for self-driving cars.
Eighty percent of Terafab's planned compute output is destined for space orbital AI satellites processing intelligence above the atmosphere, where solar power is five times stronger and heat disappears into the void.
Musk said it at the March announcement: "We either build the Terafab or we don't have the chips, and we need the chips, so we build the Terafab".
Intel's stock is already up 38% this year alone, and jumped another 3% this morning on the announcement.
The market is pricing in a resurrection.
The AI5 chip with 50 times the performance of Tesla's current hardware is headed for small-batch production later this year, powering Optimus robots, Cybercabs, and Full Self-Driving at a scale no one has ever attempted.
Morgan Stanley estimated that Giga Texas alone could need 20 million chips per year just for humanoid robots roughly six times Tesla's entire current chip demand across all its cars.

U.S. Hits Iranβs Primary Oil Hub as Hormuz Deadline Looms The U.S. has struck military targets on Iranβs Kharg Island, the countryβs most critical oil hub, which is responsible for approximately 90% of Iranian crude exports.
π¨ Do you understand what happened in the last 24 hours of this war..
> Trump said the "entire country of Iran can be taken out in one night"
> US forces struck Kharg Island β 90% of Iran's oil exports β BEFORE Trump's own deadline expired
> IDF said it was "not aware" of the strike β suggesting this was a US-solo operation
> IRGC issued its strongest warning in 39 days: "restraint is over"
> Iran rejected the 45-day ceasefire brokered by Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey
> Iran submitted a 10-point counter-proposal demanding permanent war end and sanctions lifted
> Trump called it "significant but insufficient"
> Iran is firing drones at facilities near Dimona and a US Army HQ in the UAE
> civilians in Iran are forming human chains around power plants
> Trump's deadline has been pushed at least 5 times since March 23
all of this.. one Tuesday..
Day 39 of a war with a "4-hour plan".. and you almost scrolled past it..

Wall Street forecasters expect a massive headline March CPI print on Friday due to the rise in energy prices from the Gulf war: around +0.9% on the month, driving the y/y rate to 3.3% from 2.4%. Nobody's squinting at the right side of the decimal place when the left side moves like that.
Core CPI is expected to be tamer, around 0.27% monthly. The 12-month reading climbs to 2.7% in part because a low March 2025 reading drops out.
The upshot: this second-decimal-place forecasting exercise doesn't matter so much when headline CPI is behaving like this and the drivers of that move are still in motion.
