14-03 - Exercise 1 – تَدْرِيبٌ

Point to the following nouns using the demonstrative pronoun for the far objects.
For each of the sentences, type out the full sentence using the words below and include the vowel marks.

(That is my sister)

..... أَخِي
(That is my brother)

..... طَبِيبَةٌ جَدِيدَة
(That is a new lady doctor)

(Those are merchants)

The Correct answer for the Exercise 3-1

تِلْكَ أُخْتِي
thilka ukhti
(That is my sister)

ذَلِكَ أَخِي
dhalika akhie
(That is my brother)

تِلْكَ طَبِيبَةٌ جَدِيدَةٌ
thilka tabeebatun jadeedatun
(That is a new lady doctor)

أُولَئِكَ تُجَّارٌ
ulā’ika tujjarun
(Those are merchants)

أُولَئِكَ مُدَرِّسَاتٌ
ulā’ika mudarrisaatun
(Those are female teachers)

14-04 - The plural form of demonstrative pronouns

We are still in lesson fourteen of our free Arabic language course. This Arabic course with images and audios will help you learn Arabic.
In this section we will learn the Arabic plural form of two of the personal and two possessive pronouns In-Shā’-Allâh (God willing):

The plural of both the masculine and the feminine personal as well as possessive pronouns are used to refer only to human beings, e.g.:

هُوَ مُدَرِّسٌ
huwa mudarrisun
He is a teacher

هُمْ مُدَرِّسُونَ
hum mudarrisoona
They are teachers

ذَلِكَ طَالِبٌ هُوَ مِن أَمْرِيكَا
dhalika talibun huwa min amrica
That is a student, he is from America

أُولَئِكَ طُلابٌ هُمْ مِن أَمْرِيكَا
ulā’ika talibun hum min amrica
Those are students they are from America

هِيَ مُدَرِّسَةٌ
Hiya mudarrisatun
She is a lady teacher

هُنَّ مُدَرِّسَاتٌ
hunna mudarrisaatun
They are lady teachers

تِلْكَ تِلْمِيْذَةٌ، هِيَ مُجْتَهِدَةٌ
thilka talmidhatun hiya mujtahidatun
That is a student, she is hard working

أُوْلَئِكَ تِلْمِيذَاتٌ، هُنَّ مُجْتَهِدَاتٌ
ulā’ika talmidhaatun hunna mujtahidaatun
Those are students, they are hard working

Let’s take some more examples for better understanding of the rule:

Singular: He is a Muslim
Plural: They are Muslims

الْمُفْرَدُ: هُوَ مُسْلِمٌ
الْجَمْعُ: هُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ
huwa muslimun
hum muslimoona

Singular: I have an elder brother, he is in the university
Plural: I have elder brothers, they are in the university

الْمُفْرَدُ: لِي أَخٌّ كَبِيرٌ، هُوَ فِي الْجَامِعَةِ
الْجَمْعُ: لِي إِخْوَةٌ كِبَارٌ، هُمْ فِي الْجَامِعَةِ

Lee akhun kabeerun huwa fil jami’ati
Lee ikhwatun kibarun hum fil jami’ati

Singular: His father is a doctor
Plural: Their father is a doctor

الْمُفْرَدُ: أَبُوهُ طَبِيبٌ
الْجَمْعُ: أَبُوهُمْ طَبِيبٌ
abu hu tabeebun
abu hum tabeebun

Singular: She is fasting
Plural: They are fasting
الْمُفْرَدُ: هِيَ صَائِمَةٌ
الْجَمْعُ: هُنَّ صَائِمَاتٌ
hiya sayimatun
hunna sayimaatun

Singular: She is a student, her house is near the mosque
Plural: They are students, their house is near the mosque
الْمُفْرَدُ: هِيَ طَالِبَةٌ، بَيْتُهَا عِنْدَ الْمَسْجِدِ
الْجَمْعُ: هُنَّ طَالِبَاتٌ، بَيْتُهُنَّ عِنْدَ الْمَسْجِدِ
hiya talibatun baitu ha indal masjidi
hunna talibaatun baituhunna indal masjidi

Singular: Her book is in the bag
Plural: Their books are in the bag
الْمُفْرَدُ: كِتَابُهَا فِي الْحَقِيبَةِ
الْجَمْعُ: كِتَابُهُنَّ فِي الْحَقِيبَةِ
kitabu ha fil haqeebati
kitabu hunna fil haqeebati

14-05 - Exercise 2 – تَدْرِيبٌ

Change the subject of each of the following sentences to plural with other necessary changes.
For each of the sentences, type out the full sentence using the words below changing the demonstrative pronoun and other nouns to plural form and include the vowel marks.

Example:

ذَلِكَ الرَّجُلُ مُدَرِّسٌ
dhalika-rrajulu mudarrisun
أُولَئِكَ الرِّجَالُ مُدَرِّسُونَ
Ula’ika-rrijalu mudarrisoona

مِنْ أَيْنَ ذَلِكَ الْمُدَرِّسُ؟
min ayna dhalikal mudarrisu

مَنْ ذَلِكَ الْفَتَى؟
man dhalikal fatay

هَذَا الطَّالِبُ مِنْ إِنْكِلْتِرَا وَذَلِكَ مِنْ فَرَنْسَا
hadha-ttalibu min engaltara wa dhalika min fransa

تِلْكَ الْفَتَاةُ بِنْتُ الطَّبِيبِ
thilka alfatatu bintu-ttabeebi

هَذِهِ الْمَرْأَةُ مُمَرِّضَةٌ وَتِلْكَ طَبيبةٌ
hadhihil mar’atu mumarridatun wa thilka tabeebatun

أَذَلِكَ الْمُهَنْدِسُ مُسْلِمٌ؟
adhalikal muhandisu muslimun?

تِلْكَ الْفَتَاةُ الصَّغِيرَةُ أُخْتُ حَامِدٍ
thilkal fatatu ssageeratu ukhtu hamidin

مَنْ هَذَا الْوَلَدُ الطَّوِيلُ؟

The Correct answer with questions for the Exercise 5-2

مِنْ أَيْنَ ذَلِكَ الْمُدَرِّسُ؟
min ayna dhalikaal mudarrisu
مِنْ أَيْنَ أُولَئِكَ الْمُدَرِّسُونَ؟
min ayna ula’ikal mudarrisoona?

مَنْ ذَلِكَ الْفَتَى؟
man dhalikal fatay
مَنْ أُولَئِكَ الْفِتْيَةُ؟
man ula’ikaal fityatu?

هَذَا الطَّالِبُ مِنْ إِنْكِلْتِرَا وَذَلِكَ مِنْ فَرَنْسَا

هَؤُلاءِ الطُّلابُ مِنْ إِنْكِلْتِرَا وَأُولَئِكَ مِنْ فَرَنْسَا

ula’ikal fatyatu banatu ttabeebi

هَذِهِ الْمَرْأَةُ مُمَرِّضَةٌ وَتِلْكَ طَبيبةٌ

هَؤُلاءِ النِّسَاءُ مُمَرِّضَاتٌ وَأُولَئِكَ طَبِيبَاتٌ

14-06 - The plural form of demonstrative pronouns

In this part of lesson we will learn the use of Arabic verbs with some more pronouns In-Shā’-Allâh (God willing). We have already learnt the use of verbs with the Arabic pronouns in ( Lesson No. 10 section 7 ).

ذَهَبَ Dhahaba/
He went

ذَهَبُوا Dhahabu/
They went (masc. plural)

ذَهَبَتْDhahabat/
She went

ذَهَبْنَ Dhahabna/
They went (fem. plural)

هُوَ ذَهَبَ Huwa dhahaba
He went

هُمْ ذَهَبُوا
Hum dhahbu
They went (masculine)

هِيَ ذَهَبَتْ
Hiya dhahbat
She went

هُنَّ ذَهَبْنَ
Hunna dhahabna
They went(feminine)

Let’s take some more examples for a better understanding of the rule:

Singular / الْمُفْرَدُ
Plural/ الْجَمْعُ


هُوَ ذَهَبَ عِنْدَ الْمُدَرِّسِ
huwa dhahaba indal mudarrisi
He went to the teacher
Singular/الْمُفْرَدُ
:
هُمْ ذَهَبُوْا عِنْدَ الْمُدَرِّسِ
hum dhahbu indal mudarrisi
They went to the teacher
Plural/الْجَمْعُ

الطَّالِبُ خَرَجَ مَعَ زَمِيلِهِ
attalibu kharaja ma’a zameelihi
The student went out with his colleague
Singular/الْمُفْرَدُ

الطُّلابُ خَرَجُوا مَعَ زُمَلاءِهِمْ
attullabu kharaju ma’a zumalayihim
The students went out with their colleagues
Plural/الْجَمْعُ

الْوَلَدُ جَلَسَ فِي الْمَطْعَمِ
alwaladu jalasa fil mat’am
The boy sat in the restaurant
Singular/الْمُفْرَدُ

الأَوْلادُ جَلَسُوْا فِي الْمَطْعَمِ
alawladu jalasu fil mat’am
The boys sat in the restaurant
Plural/الْجَمْعُ

هِيَ وَقَفَتْ عِنْدَ الْبَابِ
hiya waqafat inda albabi
She stood near the door
Singular/الْمُفْرَدُ

هُنَّ وَقَفْنَ عِنْدَ الْبَابِ
hunna waqafna inda albabi
They stood near the door
Plural/الْجَمْعُ

هِيَ كَتَبَتْ عَلَى السَّبُّورَةِ
hiya katabat ala assabburati
She wrote on the black board
Singular/الْمُفْرَدُ

هُنَّ كَتَبْنَ عَلَى السَّبُّورَةِ
hunna katabna ala assabburati
They wrote on the black board
Plural/الْجَمْعُ

بِنْتُ طَاهِرٍ جَلَسَتْ فِي السَّيَّارَةِ
bintu tahir jalasat fee assayyarati
Tahir's daughter sat in the car
Singular/الْمُفْرَدُ

بَنَاتُ طَاهِرٍ جَلَسْنَ فِي السَّيَّارَةِ
banatu tahir jalasna fee assayyarati
Tahir's daughters sat in the car
Plural/الْجَمْعُ

حَوِّلِ الْجُمَلَ الآتِيَةَ إِلَى جَمْعٍ
Change the following sentences to the plural

For each of the sentences, type out the full sentence using the words below and include the vowel marks.

الْمُدَرِّسَةُ خَرَجَتْ مِنَ الْفَصْلِ
