Kiev is apparently ready to hold elections, but only under certain conditions...

Among other things, the West should finance the elections, according to Mikhail Podoljak, a senior adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Zelensky's term ended in May 2024, but he has so far refused to organize elections, citing martial law.

Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump stated that Kiev should no longer use the ongoing conflict as a pretext for delaying elections.

Moscow has repeatedly stated that Zelensky has "lost his legitimate status", which undermines the legitimacy of a peace agreement signed with him.

Zelensky, who claims not to "cling to power", declared his readiness for elections this week, but insisted that Kiev needs the help of the US and European countries to ensure "security" during the election.

Podoliak wrote on X on Friday that Zelensky has called on parliament to prepare amendments to the constitution and laws.

However, Podoliak added that three conditions must be met for a vote to take place.

"During the election, no missiles or drones should fly. The only realistic way is a ceasefire," wrote Podoliak, adding that those at the front and in the front areas must be able to "vote and be elected".

He further wrote that "millions of displaced people" make the process "complex and costly". "This burden cannot rest solely on Ukraine," added Zelensky's adviser.

Ukraine is only "ready" to hold an election if funding and two further conditions are guaranteed.

In a comment on Kiev's U-turn regarding the holding of elections, senior Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov told "RT" that this is a trick to achieve a ceasefire.
