We would like to inform you that on Friday morning, the Dutch authorities arrested Palestinian journalist and activist Mustafa Ayash upon his arrival at Amsterdam Airport – The Netherlands, based on a request from the Israeli occupation authorities. He is expected to be handed over to the Austrian authorities.
He was later transferred to Deizen Bladnigh Prison 100, adjacent to Amsterdam Airport. A court hearing is scheduled for him on Monday, where he faces two grave options: either extradition to Austria or extradition to the Israeli occupation authorities.
This measure comes as a result of his outspoken views and positions in support of the Palestinian cause, especially concerning the Gaza Strip, and his rejection of alignment with the Israeli occupation. Journalist Mustafa Ayash is well known for his continuous support of the Palestinian people’s rights and for highlighting the suffering of civilians in Gaza.
It is worth noting that during the recent war on Gaza, Mustafa Ayash lost 40 members of his family, including his parents, siblings, their children, and grandchildren, making him a direct witness to the immense humanitarian tragedy endured by the Palestinian people.
His arrest and persecution constitute a blatant violation of press freedom and freedom of expression, raising serious concerns about the increasing restrictions imposed on Palestinian journalists in Europe.
