Hashem Ghazal, born in Gaza City in 1966 with a hearing disability, was a skilled carpenter, husband, and father to 9 children.

He worked with Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children since 1994. He delivered a Ted Talk titled "Let the fingers do the talk" and was nicknamed the "Godfather of the Deaf".
