Today is Mother's Day in Palestine.

I think of all the injured, killed, terrified, mourning & exhausted mothers in Gaza. I think of all the surviving mothers who're watching their children being starved to death & left to die of avoidable diseases and severe injuries.

I think of the mothers in Gaza whose children were abducted by Israeli soldiers. I think of the mothers who couldn't even bid farewell to their murdered children. I think of the mothers who witnessed the murder of her children before her eyes

I think of the new mothers in Gaza who spent their pregnancy in the most horrific conditions ever and brought a child to a world that sees their Palestinian baby as either collateral damage or unworthy of life.

I think of the mums-to-be who endured starvation, displacement, lack of healthcare, bombardments, loss etc while expecting their murder together with their fetus at any moment.

I think of all the Gazan mothers who have been cooking, washing, collecting wood and food, covering their children's ears and eyes & assuring them that there will be a free Palestine soon.

On Mother's Day and every day, we recall how mothers are scared in Palestine. We love Palestine as our mother and we're willing to sacrifice our souls for its liberation & comfort.

Rana Majed Al-Muqaid, a baby girl who hadn't celebrated her first birthday yet, was an innocent and cherished child, dearly loved by her parents.

Her short time in this world was marred by witnessing nothing but injustice and cruelty. If given the chance to grow up, she would have surely had numerous dreams and stories to share.

Rana and her mother, Shaimaa Saleh, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Tel Al-Zaatar area on October 26, 2023, leaving her father with a shattered heart over their loss.
