Dozens of ships of the Global Sumud Flotilla left the Greek island of Crete on Saturday.

Spain and Italy have dispatched two naval vessels to provide assistance to the flotilla if necessary.

The ships have come under numerous attacks during their journey. Their goal is to break Israel's siege of Gaza.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has dismissed the decision of United States President Donald Trump’s administration to revoke his visa over his criticism of Israel’s genocide on Gaza, saying that Washington “no longer respects international law”.

“I no longer have a visa to travel to the United States. I don’t care. I don’t need a visa … because I’m not only a Colombian citizen but a European citizen, and I truly consider myself a free person in the world,” Petro wrote.

German activist and steering committee member Yasemin Acar said the Global Sumud Flotilla is “on the final leg of its mission.”

According to organisers’ calculations, the flotilla is nearing the area where the Madleen ship from the previous Freedom Flotilla was intercepted by Israeli forces.

The flotilla is currently accompanied by an Italian navy vessel, while a Spanish naval ship is also expected to join shortly.

Additional volunteer vessels are set to reinforce the mission before reaching Gaza, including The Conscience, the largest ship to have participated in the earlier Freedom Flotilla.
