At least 21,000 children in Gaza have been disabled since 7 October 2023, a United Nations committee said on Wednesday.
About 40,500 children have suffered “new war-related injuries” in the nearly two years since the genocide began, with more than half of them left disabled, said the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The Growing Global Support for Palestinian Statehood
The recognition of Palestinian statehood has gained momentum over the years, particularly since Yasser Arafat's declaration of independence on 15 November 1988. This declaration included the territories of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem, leading to immediate recognition from numerous countries, especially in the Middle East and Africa.
As the situation in Gaza escalates, more nations are formalizing their recognition of Palestine, especially with the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in September 2025. Full UN membership is crucial for statehood, requiring a two-thirds majority from the 193-member UNGA, which translates to approximately 128 nations. Currently, Palestine has the backing of 147 members.
The Role of the UN Security Council
For Palestine to achieve full UN membership, it must first secure approval from the UN Security Council (UNSC), which includes five permanent members: the United States, United Kingdom, France, Russia, and China. The U.S. has historically opposed Palestinian statehood, using its veto power to block recognition efforts. Some countries advocate for a two-state solution but argue that Palestine is not yet ready for recognition.
G20 Nations and Their Stance
Among the G20 nations, 10 members have recognized Palestinian statehood. This includes:
- India
- Indonesia
- Saudi Arabia
- Turkey
- Russia
- China
- South Africa (1995)
- Brazil (2010)
- Argentina (2010)
- Mexico (2025)
Recently, France became the first G7 nation to signal its intent to recognize Palestine, followed by the UK, Canada, and Australia. However, five G20 members, including the U.S. and Germany, have yet to offer recognition.
Middle Eastern and North African Support
Arab nations were among the first to recognize Palestine, with Algeria being the first on the day of Arafat's declaration. Other early supporters included Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. Over the years, many more countries in the region have followed suit, with Lebanon and Syria recognizing Palestine in the late 1980s and early 2010s, respectively.
European Recognition
European support for Palestinian statehood has been more gradual. Eastern European countries like Albania, Bulgaria, and Hungary recognized Palestine in 1988. In recent years, Iceland, Sweden, Spain, Ireland, and Norway have also joined the ranks of supporters. However, countries like Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands have expressed reservations, often citing the need for a two-state solution.
African Nations' Response
Many African nations quickly recognized Palestinian statehood following their own independence movements. Countries such as Angola, Botswana, and South Africa have been vocal supporters. However, Cameroon and Eritrea remain notable exceptions, with Cameroon maintaining strong ties with Israel.
Asia-Pacific Perspectives
In the Asia-Pacific region, countries like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Indonesia recognized Palestine in 1988. However, nations like New Zealand and Singapore have yet to formally recognize Palestine, despite expressing support for a two-state solution.
Conclusion
The global landscape regarding Palestinian statehood is shifting, with increasing recognition from various countries. As the UNGA approaches, the dynamics of international support will continue to evolve, reflecting the complexities of geopolitical relationships and the ongoing conflict in the region. The path to full recognition remains fraught with challenges, particularly from nations with vested interests in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Tragic Loss in Gaza
Dr. Omar Harb, a university lecturer, has passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer, compounded by severe malnutrition and lack of medical treatment due to the ongoing war and blockade in Gaza. Tragically, he had already lost his wife, several children, and other relatives in an Israeli strike.
Civilian kidnapped Held in Israeli Occupation Prisons
A report by The Guardian reveals that only one in four kidnapped from Gaza are identified as fighters, with the majority being civilians held without charge or trial in harsh conditions. This includes medical workers, teachers, journalists, and vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly. One soldier described the Sde Teiman military base, which also serves as a detention center, as having so many elderly and ill Palestinians that they were placed in a separate area referred to as "the geriatric pen."
Film Premiere at Venice Film Festival
The film Voice of Hind Rajab, depicting the final plea of a five-year-old girl killed by Israeli forces in Gaza, received a 23-minute standing ovation at its premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
Escalating Violence in Gaza
Israeli occupation forces have intensified their bombardment, recently blowing up buildings in the Al-Zaytoun and Sheikh Radwan neighborhoods of Gaza City. Reports indicate that entire families are being "wiped out," with at least 28 Palestinians killed in attacks since dawn on Thursday.
Hamas Proposes National Administration
Hamas has expressed readiness to form an independent national administration to govern Gaza and is open to a comprehensive truce deal that would include the release of all Israeli captives. However, Israeli War Criminal Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has rejected this proposal, stating that "the genocide can end immediately" under conditions set by his cabinet.
Annexation Plans and Military Insights
Israeli far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has unveiled a plan to annex nearly all of the occupied West Bank, urging Netanyahu’s endorsement. An Israeli occupation military representative has indicated that the seizure of Gaza City may not necessarily dismantle Hamas's control over the area.
Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza
The UNRWA has called on Israel to lift restrictions on its aid operations, stating it has been unable to deliver supplies to Gaza for six months. Hospitals in Gaza City are facing immense pressure as casualties continue to mount.
Global Reactions
Mandla Mandela, grandson of Nelson Mandela, has stated that Palestinians are experiencing a "worse form of apartheid" than what Black South Africans endured. Meanwhile, the U.S. has expressed concern over Norway’s divestment from Caterpillar due to its involvement in Israeli abuses.
Resourcefulness Amid Crisis
In a desperate attempt to cope with the ongoing fuel shortages, Palestinians in Gaza City are resorting to producing fuel from plastic waste as the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate. @GhostPrincess

Jeremy Corbyn-led Gaza inquiry kicks off in London
An event examining the UK’s role in Israel’s war on Gaza, hosted by former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, is under way in London.
“The suffering of the Palestinian people have gone on for a long time, but 63,000 have died since October 2023, and we’re watching livestreamed on television children being starved to death,” Corbyn said in his opening remarks at “The Gaza Tribunal”.
“It is our job as members of parliament, it is our job as citizens to hold our government to account for what is going on,” said Corbyn, now an independent MP launching a new left-wing party.

⚡️Google has come under intense criticism after signing a $45 million contract with the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office in June 2025 to run a digital advertising campaign on YouTube and Display & Video 360, aimed at promoting official Israeli messages during genocide operations in Gaza.
One of the key ads featured a video by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs falsely claiming that there is food in Gaza, which garnered over 6 million views through paid promotion. The campaign was coordinated through the Israeli government advertising agency (Lapam), directly affiliated with the Prime Minister’s Office.
Google’s role in this campaign has faced growing criticism, particularly in relation to the Nimbus project, a cloud partnership providing infrastructure for the Israeli regime and it's occupation military, raising questions about the involvement of major tech companies in supporting and justifying state violence.
