ICJ to hold hearings on Israel’s aid obligations to Palestinians
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) says it will begin hearings on Israel’s humanitarian obligations towards Palestinians in The Hague on April 28.
The hearings come after the UN General Assembly approved a resolution in December seeking an advisory opinion from the world’s top court on the matter. The resolution, adopted in the wake of Israel banning the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), calls on the ICJ to clarify what Israel is required to do to “ensure and facilitate the unhindered provision of urgently needed supplies essential to the survival of the Palestinian civilian population”.
Although the ICJ’s decisions are legally binding, the court has no concrete means to enforce them.
Last July, the tribunal issued an advisory opinion stating that Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory was “illegal” and must end as soon as possible.

UN report on ‘genocidal acts’ to give boost to ICJ case against Israel
The United Nations report is detailed and not very easy to read. It contains very graphic details and testimonies from not only the victims but also the perpetrators of these acts.
The report relies on information and videos published by the soldiers themselves documenting themselves carrying out some of the acts detailed in the report. This includes humiliating Palestinian detainees, assaulting them, and stripping them down to their underwear.
The report also talks about the targeting of health facilities, including Gaza’s main fertility clinic. About 4,000 embryos were deliberately destroyed in that attack, in effect denying thousands of families the possibility of giving birth.
The report also talks about acts of sexual violence committed against Palestinian detainees, men and women alike. This includes rape by foreign objects of men and women in Israeli custody.

Pregnant wife of detained Palestinian Columbia University student speaks out
“He is the most incredible person who cares so much for other people,” his wife Noor Abdalla told the Reuters news agency. “He is the most kind, genuine soul.”
On Wednesday, Khalil’s lawyers argued to a federal judge that he had been arrested in retaliation for his outspoken advocacy against Israel’s war on Gaza. The judge extended his order blocking Khalil’s deportation while he considers whether the arrest was constitutional.
The couple are expecting their first child in late April. She said she hoped Khalil would be free by then.
“I think it would be very devastating for me and for him to meet his first child behind a glass screen,” Abdalla said. “I’ve always been so excited to have my first baby with the person I love.”
Khalil’s arrest is one of the first efforts by US President Trump to fulfill his promise to seek deportation of some foreign students involved in the pro-Palestinian protest movement.

Columbia union president among nine expelled over Palestine activism.
More on Columbia University’s crackdown on student protesters.
The Student Workers of Columbia (SWC) union says its president Grant Miner is among the nine students expelled by the university.
In a statement, SWC said Miner was “expelled without evidence for participation in Palestine solidarity activism, which was in response to Columbia’s financial investment in US-backed Israeli genocide”.
SWC added that Miner’s expulsion “comes the day before we start bargaining” with the university’s administration over staff contracts.
It accused the university of escalating “retaliation against students, faculty and staff for pro-Palestine protest” in order to “appease the Trump administration”.
The White House withdrew some $400m in federal funding to Columbia this week, accusing it of failing to protect Jewish students during the campus protests last year.
