ICC chief prosecutor to be first target of Trumpโs sanctions: Report
International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim Khan may be the first person to be targeted under President Trumpโs executive order authorising sanctions against the court and its staff, the Reuters news agency reports, citing two anonymous sources.
Khan, a British citizen, was named on Friday in an annexe โ not yet made public โ to Trumpโs executive order, said a senior ICC official and another source, both briefed by US government officials.
The sanctions Khan and other designated ICC officials will face include the freezing of US assets and being barred, along with their families, from visiting the US.
Trumpโs executive order directed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, in consultation with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to submit a report within 60 days naming those who should be sanctioned.
Trumpโs move has been met with widespread condemnation, including from more than 70 countries โ France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands among them โ who have reaffirmed their support for the ICC.
The ICC has condemned the sanctions, pledging to stand by its staff and โcontinue providing justice and hope to millions of innocent victims of atrocities across the worldโ.
